Getting ready for Samhain (Hallowe’en) Here is a poem I wrote a few years ago. 🎃

A POEM FOR HALLOWE’EN © 2004 by B. W. Van Alstyne

We dance in a circle,
Our voice rising high,
On this AllHallows-Eve
As the spirits draw nigh.

The spirits are with us.
We bid them come near
And join in the dance of Samhain without fear.

“Oh come,” we sing out
with joy and delight.
“Come dance ‘round the fire
this Hallowe’en night!”

I would like to extend warm birthday wishes to my musical idol, Johnny Mathis, who turns 89 today and continues to captivate audiences with his performances. As a lifelong fan since the age of 12, I have had the privilege of admiring his extensive discography, which comprises over 100 or so albums, to which I own 88 and have many CDs.

Notably, I had the honor of receiving a personal phone call from Mr. Mathis in the late 1990s, expressing gratitude for my cookbook and companion CD, 'The Singing Chef - Back to Basics (The Do-Re-Mi's of Cooking).' Our conversation left an indelible impression, as he graciously complimented my culinary and vocal talents, remarking that I sang 'sweetly' and possessed a 'pretty voice.' His kind words and comparison of my singing style to his own continue to inspire me, solidifying his enduring influence on my life and musical aspirations. Happy Birthday Johnny Mathis
