An Open Letter to the “I’m Saving This for the Next Kid” Pile
Let’s talk about that pile in the basement.
The one full of clothes, shoes, and toys you’re keeping “just in case” you have another child… or for your sister… or maybe your future grandkids.
I get it. It makes sense to save it. Baby stuff is expensive. And you worked hard to organize it all into bins, labeled by size, season, and sentimental value.
But here’s the question:
When the time actually comes… do you really go get them?
Or do you go to Target?
Or get a shower full of gifts?
Or just forget what’s even in those bins?
Because most of the time—we don’t dig through them.
We don’t wash the yellowed onesies or piece together the mystery socks.
We buy fresh. Or someone gifts us more.
And in the meantime, those bins take up space.
Physical space. Mental space. Emotional space.
They hold weight. Guilt. And a little bit of “what if.”
So here’s your permission to ask the hard question:
Am I saving this because I truly need it—or because it’s hard to let go?
And if the answer is the second one… we can help.
