A Wild Home

A Wild Home We raised our children on our 4-acre historic, permaculture farm(Luna Hill Farm) for 10 years.

Sold our educational, permaculture farm of 10 yrs in Indiana🌿Traveled the US in our self-converted skoolie for 2 yrs 🚌 Now: still Cultivating Community, Celebrating Curiosity & Nurturing Wonder, with Nature- at our Wild Home in Downtown Brooksville, FL! While we lived there, we ran various community building events, ranging from Yoga on the lawn, a monthly Women's Listening Circle for 7 years, for

aging classes in our 2 acre Forest Garden, Medicinal Plant classes from our herb spiral, community gatherings of all sorts, & farm tours. We also ran the Luna Hill Wild School, where children from ages 4-13 came to learn about mindfulness, permaculture & organic gardening, carpentry, animal husbandry, foraging, connecting with the moons cycles, healthy communication, & more! In 2019 we decided to do something we'd been contemplating for a while-convert a bus and travel with our kids as a natural evolution to their(and our!)education. AJ design the bus & John built the conversion all by hand in 3 1/2 months & we left our hometown on December 1st, starting our (at least)year-long adventure exploring the U.S.!

🌞 Another awesome Homeschool Park Meetup today! I love sharing resources & connecting folks from diverse backgrounds -thanks so much to the many families who come out🥰 I know our kids sure love it & we caregivers are better for the community we receive when we come together ❤️
📸 Park Meetup today, spotlighted two amazing local resources; Hayley Smith of The Sound Reader & Sarah Cunningham of The Tortoise & the Hen Homestead. Also had Hayley over for evaluations with our kids afterwards & I’m so glad that we’re going to be able to utilize her for tutoring! And, look forward to a Wild School group field trip to Sarah’s place this spring!
We also showed our new pet to our friends😍 Henry is in love with him and named him Curly.

Mom; don’t forget about the Mom Night Out! This Saturday at The Bistro & Good Time….it will be a GREAT time😄

🏡My office in the treehouse this morning (& many mornings)! Started a weekly accountability FaceTime meeting with some dear friends in different parts of the country; reflecting & stating our goals, with helpful tips & input- just what I needed & SO very grateful for this & them! I asked them after listening to an piece I heard on the benefits to this & I can already tell it’s gonna be amazing! Officially opening another Wild School again, while homeschooling 4 kiddos & already hosting so many events locally is a lot & so amazing- this resource is just another tool to hold myself accountable for the intentionality I bring to…everything 😌

🐦 Earlier in the day we found a woodpecker who was hit on the road & we wanted to return it to the earth peacefully. So while it was sad, the kids got to see the creature & beautiful, clever features close up, named him, Iris carved a ‘headstone’ for him, & they had a funeral. Then they went back to working in their fort at the woodsy area here at our wild home😌
❤️Another wonderful ‘get to know & help eachother’ meetup here with some other local women running children’s programs in the area! Their kiddos helped orchestrate Johnathon’s funeral, too☺️ So grateful for their ‘cooperation over competition’ attitude (which was a big component to the talk I gave at the Women's Circle for this this moon) & I’m happy to help spread the word on all the wonderful work they’re doing!
🗣️If you join us for the Homeschool Park Meetup I hold at Tom Varn Park every Monday at 11am for the past 5 months, where I host a meet-and-greet & spotlight some local resources- Julie Susarrey will be there sharing about her ASL classes & Montessori school for littles she’s offering! I will also be spotlighting my good friend Hayley Smith’s tutoring services! I will also spotlight Sarah Cunningham at a future meetup & am planning a group field trip to her homestead! We had over 30 families there last week & it just fills my cup to be connecting so many homeschooling families with resources! 🫶AJ

☀️ Beautiful morning walk identifying & observing the birds at Chinsegut Conservation Center with the Hernando Audubon Society! A few of our kids are quite the birders & getting to be around elders who are passionate in this field is just such a priceless gift for me to watch as a mother & teacher!

📸 Oh, what a wonderful workshop it was! These kiddos did an amazing job needle felting their wolves from the story for this Wolf Moon! It seriously fills my cup to the brim to get the opportunity to share my connection with nature, knowledge, & love for helping kids love themselves while acknowledging all the light they each have to offer this world! Each class I teach, I get the opportunity to change the world in the smallest way, but I know that the little wonderful moments & memories we create can make a big difference & I don’t take that for granted. ♥️ Thank you SO much to the families who brought your amazing little humans out-I had a blast 🫶AJ

🌑 Up before the sun today; journaling with the New Moon, working on my word/animal art inspiration for the year to hang over my desk, preparing for today’s needle felting workshop I’m teaching here, & for the Women’s Circle I’ll hold this Sunday✨ So looking forward to both of these events!
🐝 This is the year of the Queen Honeybee for me & the trip around the sun to be DEVOTED to myself- No shame in my discipline of self love here 🫶AJ

Held a wonderful workshop on needle felting this week at our home during this wolf moon✨ Read one of my favorite stories on the history of wolves in America that gives a well-rounded & highly engaging perspective on the complex issue. Then, the kids got to work making their own wolf, Blanca, from the story 🐺 I’ll share pics next week when they finish!

Most of my classes will be outdoors, but we opted to keep the kiddos hands agile & comfortable inside with these unusually cold temps here in Florida!
📸 They also helped feed our worms from left over Apple pieces during the outdoor/free-play time 🪱

🗣️ Wanted to give a shout out to these wonderful women entrepreneurs in the homeschool, art, & wellness field, who I’ve got to know recently & some more deeply since we moved here, a year ago. Please check out their pages & follow their offerings-each brings a unique light & I’m so excited to continue to watch them grow & support their endeavors!

📸 A few weeks ago some of us met at my favorite coffee shop (which I’m going to be working at soon!!!!) to get to know each other better & find out how we can support one another. Cultivating Community- so grateful to have met other women who want to uplift! *See the photos for their links & follow them, too!!

We finally unloaded our scroll saw & all the kids have been busy making their own creations 🤺 This tool helped many hands create in our workshop at the farm & Wild School in Indiana, went all around the country with us in our skoolie, & now we’re back in full creative swing, rooted down at home this Winter. Having spaces & tools for us to take our sketches & turn them into tangible works is so rewarding, no matter how small or big it is!
👧 They’ve each made different swords to battle with, taking them everywhere to play! And I’m making brackets for the shelves in our apothecary.

We are a family of six living the simple life here on our farm in the beautiful countryside of Plymouth, Indiana & we love to share in the process. We are passionate about Cultivating Community, Celebrating Curiosity, & Nurturing Wonder With Nature! John & Amanda Jo lead the year-round Luna Hill Wildschool on Wednesdays.
