Biggest belly wins the girl!👩‍❤️‍👨👩‍❤️‍

Who will be the most handsome guy on your friend list if it depends on a bigger belly? Send him to the Bodi tribe in Ethiopia to win a contest. It is true that these people annually choose the most handsome guy by measuring the fattest body (especially the belly) from unmarried men. If you have the fattest body with a large belly, girls will go crazy over you. Sounds fun right? But the way to gain weight is pretty hard and kind of awkward.

For this, men have to prepare 6 months before. During that time, these men live in huts. They can’t leave their huts and have to live separately from their families. The fascinating fact is throughout this time period what they drink is cows’ milk and blood.

Women deliver those to them. They believe that blood and milk help to gain more pounds. So with the sunrise, they drink their first bowl of blood (around 1or 2 ltr) before it clots and after that, they drink milk and blood all day long. However, some can't get through this, so they vomit. The blood is taken by making a hole in a vein and seals it afterward with clay. After all, cows are sacred animals, so they don’t kill cows. And also, they are prohibited to have s*x during this period. They believe that if they do so, their treasure, cows will be cursed.

On the final day after spending 6 months, they have to run a long way with their heavy bodies to the place where the final ceremony takes place. Their look is very important to this contest. So, they apply fresh cow dung on their bodies in order to look fresher and it makes the body shine under the sun. So their looks became more attractive. They wear large-sized earrings to look like their cows as cows are sacred to them. They wear belts to make butts look more attractive. Wearing a piece of cow skin on their back and is the only thing they wear, otherwise, they are totally naked.
Girls also prepare to choose their future husbands. More marks on your body, you will be a beautiful woman to men. So women mark different patterns on skin with a blade or knife in order to be more attractive. As well as, on the final day, girls do makeup by applying a special ochre on their skin. Every Bodi teenages’ dream is to be the fat man in a future contest.

When the contest starts, fat men begin to walk, jump, dance and sing. A jury consisting of tribe elders will decide who will win the contest. They decide it by measuring the size of the neck, arm, belly, and thigh of fat men at a secret place in the forest. The one who receives the highest marks will be crowned as the most handsome of the year. As a gift, he will get a pair of big blue earrings and will be considered a hero for the rest of his life.

The Day of the Dead - Dia de los Mu***os

"Our dead are never dead to us until we have forgotten them.❤"

Think that you died and you get an annual chance to reunite with your loved ones and have food and gifts as you had when you were alive. Or, would you like it, if you get a chance to reunite with your loving family member who passed away while you are alive? Both are possible on The Day of the Dead. This Mexican version of Halloween offers you this great opportunity. However, this is a different story from Halloween. It is true that they share the theme of death but celebrate it in different ways. Often, Halloween is tagged with horror and fun whereas The Day of the Dead is mostly celebrated to honor and to express love for departed family members. Anyone who can remember the vibrant Disney/Pixar animated film Coco will know this better than the others.

Day of little angels (Dia de Los Angelitos) starts at midnight on November 1st, welcoming all dead kids who will temporarily return to the earth realm to reunite with their families. So the families create beautiful altars decorating them with Marigold flowers and candles where they offer dead kids’ favorite food, toys, candies, sugar skulls with their names written on and especially photographs in order to inspire their arrivals. They believe that Marigold flowers are the pathways to guide the spirits who wander around to find their resting places in the living world. And also, it is believed that the flowers’ fragrance and colors attract souls.

On November 2nd at midnight, they welcome the adult spirits in the same way with some adult-like offerings to express honor and love. After All, they celebrate the grand finale of the day of the dead by gathering together, dressing up with funky makeup, and holding parades in the streets where walls are beautifully painted. Final day families visit gravesites, clean and color up the grave, decorate it with Marigold flowers, and put gifts, foods, and sugar skulls.

Face paintings (Mostly as skeletons), dressing up with fancy costumes as skeletons, singing and dancings, parties, live music, and parades are the most iconic, colorful, and highlighted features throughout this event. This day is getting popular all around the world crossing the border of Mexico. UNESCO has added The Day of the Dead as a holiday to its list as they recognized it as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. If you are in Mexico on those dates, don't miss the grand parade.

In the time of the alcohol prohibition era (1919-1933), moonshiners(brewers who make and transport alcohol illegally) had to find a way to evade police finding them in the middle of the forests or meadows. So these ingenious crooks created fancy footwear to disguise their foot tracks with cow hooves.

The police couldn’t find tracks. Obviously, less suspicion arose and it actually worked! For them, Ain’t anything out there but cows and corn.

It says that the original idea was taken from a Sherlock Holmes story, where the villain’s tactic was to make fake tracks to conceal his identity. Moonshiners didn’t use real cow hooves, instead, they made them from wood carving into shapes like cow hooves. They attached them to the bottom of the boots. However, this trick wouldn't be a long-lasting method to hide from the police.

Sooner they found this cunning trick and in 1922 a Florida newspaper called the Evening Independent published a documentary revealing this cow shoe trick. So it seems like these moonshiners had to come up with a new idea to evade the police after that.

Cornrows have a long history back to the 5th century BC. At present, braiding expresses the cultural heritage, historical pride, and freedom from abuse for the people of African origin.

A fascinating fact is that cornrows had been used to elaborate maps for escaping and this was a most tactical and head-saving method for the African slave population.

This rebellion weapon holders were women/Women were the message senders. They created the maps or delivered messages through their cornrows. Vocal messages would not be a smart action since, at that period, many slave owners could understand their language.

Slaves were not literate (obviously, they were not allowed to be), so passing messages through cornrow was the smartest way to execute. Hence, this method was the easiest way to protect the secrets from their slave masters. With these cornrows, no slave masters had the opportunity to capture the information passing method among the slaves. So the owners had no suspicion at all.

However, it doesn't mean that a single hairstyle would deliver the whole plan. They used different hairstyles to inform different messages. For example, when a hairstyle has thick, tight braids, braided closely to the scalp, and is tied into buns on the top, it means “escape”. And also, when a hairstyle has curved braids, tightly braided on their heads, those braids represent routes that they must use to escape.

Also, they used braids to keep gold and hide seeds in, to use them to survive after the escape.

Do not think that every woman who was planning to escape had the same style of braids. There was a female leader in a slave group. Such a woman had a distinctive hairstyle. So the rest of the others knew what it meant.
