The Totino-Grace High School baseball team won their school’s first-ever state championship at the end of June with a win over Mahtomedi. The TG legion baseball team will look to win another state title later this week when they play in the American Legion Baseball State Tournament.

The Totino-Grace baseball team won its first state high school title in June. Some of the same players will aim at an American Legion title.

The Osseo Post 172 American Legion baseball team is in the state tournament for the first time since winning the title in 2021. They beat Wayzata 11-10 to win the Sub-State 10 tournament Sunday to advance. Osseo is 16-9 this season entering state.

The Heritage Christian Academy took on West Central Area in the 2023 - 2024 State Class A Boys Basketball Quarterfinal. The Minnesota High School League has now allowed this game to be uploaded.

For the first time ever, Maple Grove will be hosting an American Legion Baseball State Tournament. A big reason why Maple Grove will be hosting the 2024 tournament is because of the addition of Gleason Fields in May of 2023. The turf baseball field makes it easier to manage in the chance of rain. Osseo Memorial Field, St. Michael Lower Rec Center, and Delano Municipal Stadium will also be locations for pool play in the tournament with Gleason Fields hosting two of the quarterfinals, plus the semifinals and championship Saturday and Sunday.

For the first time ever, Maple Grove will be hosting the American Legion Baseball State Tournament. The state tournament starts Thursday.

The Osseo American Legion baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past Wayzata and win 11-10, capturing the Sub-State 10 tournament Sunday. The win was the second of the tournament for Osseo over Wayzata and advances them to this week’s state tournament, hosted by Maple Grove.

The Champlin Park American Legion baseball team got off to a strong start and went on to beat Princeton 6-1 in an elimination game in the Sub-State 8 tournament Friday. Starting pitcher Donovan Vendel pitched four scoreless innings for Champlin Park.

In the quarterfinals of the Sub-State 10 legion baseball tournament, Osseo found itself down 6-4 heading into the seventh inning. Wayzata clawed its way out of the elimination bracket, winning three straight games, but fell to Osseo in the Sub-State 10 title game on Sunday.

In the first round of the Sub-State 10 legion baseball tournament, Wayzata scored six unanswered runs to earn a 6-3 win over Annandale. Wayzata will now face Osseo Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Maple Grove’s Ian Schock and Anoka’s Brayden Cherrey both pitched gems in the opening round of the Sub-State 10 Legion baseball tournament, but Anoka came out on top with a 1-0 win. Maple Grove will now play in the elimination bracket on Thursday evening.

The Armstrong American Legion baseball team lost its first game of the Sub-State 4 tournament Tuesday, falling 4-1 to Excelsior. Excelsior scored a run in the third inning on an infield groundout and added three more in the fifth, two of them scoring on errors. Armstrong got its lone run in the sixth inning on a bases-loaded walk to Trey Dwyer. Armstrong also lost 4-3 to St. Louis Park Wednesday, eliminating them from the tournament. Tournament play in Sub State 4 continues through Saturday at Veterans Field in Minnetonka.

The Champlin Park American Legion baseball team scored three runs in the first, third and fourth innings on the way to a 9-0 win over Becker in the first round of the SubState 8 tournament Tuesday morning. The Rebels play a winner’s bracket game Wednesday morning in the tournament.

In the USA Cup semifinal match-up of the boys under 19 gold division, the MapleBrook Soccer Club fell to Academy Sports Club by a score of 3-0. Goalkeeper Evan Martin kept MapleBrook in the game in the first half with a few nice stops, but ASC got on the board with a goal from Jakub Rus. In the second half, Academy got goals from Jacob Nokken and Dean Fitzgerald to earn a 3-0 win. MapleBrook finished the USA Cup tournament with a 4-1 record.

2018 Champlin Park High School graduate Josiah Strong is continuing his basketball career overseas. The 24-year old Brooklyn Park native leaves next month to play for HKK Siroki in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In this week’s CCX Sports Fishing Tip Hall of Fame angler Terry Tuma talks about fishing line colors. Terry suggests using either a green monofilament line when fishing in cloudy water and either green or clear line when fishing in clear water. Fire line is good for aggressive fish with a good stretch factor. Flourocarbon line provides minimal stretch and is nearly invisible to fish. Terry says be prepared with the various lines before heading out on the water.

The MapleBrook under 15 girls soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against East Ridge in pool play Thursday at the USA Cup tournament in Blaine. Neither team scored in the first half but in the opening minute of the second half MapleBrook’s Abigail Thao scored directly off a corner kick to give her team the first goal of the match. It stayed 1-0 until much later in the second half when the Raptors’ Layla Shultz chipped a shot in for a goal. Neither team scored the rest of the way and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Playoff matches in the various age divisions and brackets for the tournament take place Friday and Saturday.

The Kickers FC under 14 boys, a soccer team based out of Brooklyn Park, earned their second win of pool play at the USA Cup with a 1-0 victory over 1v1 Futbol Dreams Academy on Manitoba. No scoring took place in the first half with Kickers goalie Davin Enno making some nice saves before halftime. Midway through the second half Ike Ofulue connected on a corner kick from Jadon Asemota to give the Kickers a 1-0 lead. Enno made some more solid saves late in the second to give the Kickers their second win of the tournament. The team lost Thursday 1-0 and will compete in their age division and bracket playoffs starting Friday.

The Kickers FC under 14 boys earned their second win of pool play at the USA Cup with a 1-0 victory over 1v1 Futbol Dreams Academy.
