The Hopkins boys basketball team held off a second-half charge from Wayzata to earn a last-second win over the Trojans, 77-76.

Wyatt McBeth couldn’t get his shot off with 5.8 seconds left and the Royals held on for the win. After McBeth’s missed shot, a double technical was assessed to both the Wayzata and Hopkins benches.

Then after the game, emotions were running high, with words exchanged between the coaching staffs.

The Wayzata HS Girls Basketball team beat Hopkins Royals Girls Basketball 76-70 Thursday, completing a regular season sweep of the Royals- the first time that’s happened since at least the 1980s.

The Maple Grove girls basketball team won their 14th game in a row, holding off Minnehaha Academy, 70-67. The Crimson, who are now ranked #1 in the state in Class 4A. The Crimson are now 21-2 on the season and haven’t lost since December 28th when they fell to Hopkins.

For the fourth straight season the Maple Grove girls hockey team beat Champlin Park/C**n Rapids in the Section 5AA semifinals. They meet top seed Centennial/Spring Lake Park Friday in the section final.

The Totino-Grace boys hockey team skated to its 13th win of the season Tuesday, beating Monticello 5-2. The Eagles (13-9-1) close out the regular season with games later this week against St. Cloud and Dodge County.

The Park Center wrestling team will have home-mat advantage Friday as the Pirates host the Section 5AAA team tournament. Park Center is seeded third behind heavy favorite St. Michael-Albertville and second seed Wayzata. They are hoping to reach their first section final since 2005.
