Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival Applications Now Accepted!

Online applications are now open for authors and illustrators to participate in the Talbot County Free Library’s 10th annual Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival, set to take place on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library.

Applications need to be completed before January 31, 2025, and can be found at bit.ly/ccbf25. The selection committee will review submissions and curate a mix of returning favorites and fresh voices to captivate attendees.

This year’s event marks a special milestone as part of the library’s 100th-anniversary celebrations, which includes a full menu of events throughout the year, with more at www.tcfl.org.

The Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival serves as the kickoff to the library’s Summer Reading Program and promises to be an engaging and educational experience for children from Pre-K through 8th grade. This year’s festivities will feature the return of the enchanting Opera Bears, adding an extra touch of magic to the day.

"We’re so excited to celebrate the library’s 100th anniversary with this milestone event,” said Dana Newman, executive director of the Talbot County Free Library. “The Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival has grown into a very meaningful tradition for families, and we can’t wait to showcase a diverse lineup of talented authors and illustrators who inspire and delight young readers.”

Applications are open to traditionally published authors and illustrators, with a limited number of slots available for independently published works. Books should reflect diverse backgrounds, resonate with the community, and be available for sale by the festival date. Priority will be given to books released beginning in June 2024.

The Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival is an annual event that draws thousands of children and their families. The festival includes author readings, crafts, children’s activities, and more.

Festival sponsors and partners include the Academy Art Museum; Maryland Public Television; Pickering Creek Audubon Center; Talbot County Free Library Foundation; Talbot County Judy Center; Talbot County, Maryland; the Town of Easton; and What’s Up? Magazines. This program is funded in part by a grant from Talbot Arts with revenues provided by the Maryland State Arts Council.

Are you ready to shine when you get your moment in the spotlight? Because getting media attention is only half of the battle... the other half is knowing how to excel on camera!

I think all of us should know the ins and outs of how to nail an interview, which is why I'm brining in my friend, Paula Rizzo, to teach a free media training class.

What You'll Learn:
• Crafting Engaging Videos: Discover the secrets to producing videos that capture attention and hold it, making your message memorable.
• On-Camera Confidence: Develop techniques to deliver compelling and persuasive media interviews that resonate with your audience in podcasts, on television, radio and anywhere online.
• Creating Newsworthy Content: Learn how to structure your stories to appeal to both the media and your readers.
• Video Production Best Practices: Get the inside scoop on what works (and what doesn't) in video production.
• Leveraging Video for Marketing: Use video as a tool to drive book sales, attract media attention, and grow your audience.
And this class is being taught by a total pro.

Paula Rizzo is an Emmy Award-winning television producer, bestselling author of Listful Thinking & Listful Living, media-training coach, speaker, LinkedIn Learning Instructor, host of the live-stream show “Inside Scoop,” and creator of the popular online training Media-Ready Author. She also writes a regular column for Writer’s Digest.

Don't miss this awesome opportunity. Register for the free webinar now to join us live on December 5th at 3pm ET.

Are you finished with your manuscript and headed toward the query trenches? This one is for you.

Amy Collins is teaching a Proposal and Submission Class for Writers Digest that starts this week. She meets with writers every Thursday night to help them put together their query and submission packages. The class is a good idea whether you want to get an agent or if you are pitching publishers directly. It runs for 5 weeks and at the end of it, you have a proposal, comp titles, a list of targets to query and a MUCH deeper understanding of the publishing industry.

More information can be found at

Whether you are fiction or non-fiction, having a fully fleshed-out proposal package will make all the difference! Proposals are NOT just for non-fiction.
