INCIDENT AT GAINESVILLE GAS STATION- This is not a crime, but a resident asked that I relay an incident that made her feel uncomfortable and could have, possibly, become dangerous.

Yesterday, July 7, around 1:30 p.m., an adult woman was getting gas at the Sunoco (Wi Not Stop) on Linton Hall Road and Whitney Road at pump 13. Also pumping gas, at pump 16, was a man who drove a work vehicle.

While she was standing at the pump, the man walked over to her and asked her some personal questions. Feeling uneasy, she interacted but did not always answer him truthfully about herself.

Then, he gave her a handshake and unwelcome hug. She wasn't sure how to handle it, so she stood there. The conversation paused, and he walked back to his vehicle.

After a few moments, he came back over to her and again gave her another hug, which made her very uncomfortable. He may have hugged her again after that.

She told me she didn't know why she stayed, but was unsure of what to do. She didn't know his purpose for the interaction and said she felt like he was "testing" her, maybe trying to build confidence.

"After I got back into the car, I thought about all kinds of stuff that could have happened. I am not saying he would have, but if that had been his intention, he definitely could have gotten away with it," she said.

Again, he did not commit any crime, but the interaction felt suspicious and was incredibly uncomfortable. I thought I would at least share it on Facebook as a "stranger-danger" warning.

If you ever feel unsafe at a gas station, a better choice may be to sit in the vehicle or go into the store.

DESCRIPTION: The man looked to be Latino with tan skin and long dark hair. He was in his 40's or 50's, between 5'5"-5'9" in height. He had a long ponytail and wore green cargo shorts. He was dirty, possibly from asphalt work. He drove a big work truck, but she didn't get the license plate or color of the car.
