O antigo Mercado da Praça da Figueira, em Lisboa, surgiu em 1755 , após o terramoto. Ali existira anteriormente o Hospital de Todos os Santos que ficou totalidade destruído com o tremor de terra.
O mercado sofreu diversas alterações consoante as necessidades da população.
Em 1835 foi embelezado e arborizado e, a seguir, iluminado.
Em 1849 recebeu uma cerca gradeada e coberta e possuía oito portas.
Em 1882 foi aprovado o projecto de um grande edifício rectangular com uma bela estrutura metálicas e quase oito mil metros quadrados de área onde se vendia quase de tudo.
Infelizmente foi derrubado em 1949.

: Now Madeira. House prices in Madeira rose by 19% in one year.

According to the portal 'Idealista,' the most expensive municipality to buy a house is Calheta, with a price of 3,440 euros per square meter.

Funchal follows in second place.

In third is Ponta do Sol, followed by the municipalities of Ribeira Brava, Câmara de Lobos, Santa Cruz, Porto Moniz, and São Vicente.

Santana is the municipality on the island where housing is the cheapest.
