🎶It was an unforgettable night with The Roots at College Street Music Hall🎶 The energy was through the roof and the music as usual was on point. Big shoutout to the band for bringing the house down. In true Roots fashion they reinterpreted their original music on the fly and covered some of the classic joints that make up the fabric of Old School Hip Hop. Who else was there to witness this epic performance that I didn’t run into?

Rick Reyes and The Cosmic Jibaros took us to another sonic dimension at last nights Latin Rock Concert benefiting Groundwork Bridgeport at Fairfield Theatre Company. You would be hard pressed to find any artist or band today that has the ability to not only magically reshape their own original music on the fly, but cover classic tunes, add Latin spices and make it their own. I have never heard The Grateful Dead and The Police sound the way Rick and his gifted band of brothers serve it up the way they did at this special show. #latinrock #latinmusic #gratefuldead #ThePolice #livemusic

WPKN Community Radio hosted a fundraiser last night at Bijou Theater, Bridgeport, CT with WPKN Presents GARY LUCAS. Gary Lucas has released more than 50 albums as a solo artist or band leader in a variety of genres and has toured internationally. He was a member of Captain Beefheart and Gods and Monsters, but for me his work writing/playing with Jeff Buckley is a standout. Gary’s list of artists collaboration would make your head spin. Artists such as Chris Cornell, Bryan Ferry, Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, John Cale, Lou Reed and Patti Smith are just the tip of the iceberg.Gary created a whole special universe for those fortunate enough to witness him in this intimate setting last night. I will treasure this moment because there are very few artists in todays musical landscape that can play guitar with flawless precision, minimal equipment and deliver it in an honest to goodness organic fashion. #garylucas #jeffbuckley #guitarist #guitar #guitarplayer

WPKN Community Radio Hispanic Heritage Month live events are is in full swing. Last night we hosted THIS IS US – A CELEBRATION OF HISPANIC AMERICAN MUSICIANS at The Bijou.
Ricardo Paredes opened with a beautiful traditional Peruvian Charango. Proyecto Cimarron Folkloric Ensemble followed with a highly spirited Puerto Rican Bomba music and dance performance. Rick Reyes closed the night and lifted us beyond the outer stratosphere with his amazing band. This was a true potpourri of sounds that you couldn’t find on any other stage last night, but ours.
Big round of applause for our highly engaged audience who danced, sang and celebrated with us. Much love to you all!
Luis Pomales and I had the honor of kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month in a big way on La Esquina Latina today at WPKN Community Radio with Marcos Torres and son Marcos Torres. To experience and feel the sacred music created by these two live in our studio moved us to our core. Stay tuned for more from them in our studio this month as we celebrate and take over the radio waves with Latin Music goodness 🎶
Witnessing KRAFTWERK 3D NEW HAVEN CT front and center was a mesmerizing experience. I could now say that I had a deep sound bath from the fathers of electronic music. They are in the fabric of so many artists and bands across so many genres that the casual music listener isn’t even aware it started with them. Without Kraftwerk there would be no modern fist pumping EDM DJs filling arenas and stadiums for pushing a few buttons. This is the SOURCE of where it all came from. They don’t sample beats they are the one who created the BEATS.
Taylor Hawkins/Foo Fighters/ Irving Plaza in NYC 12/6/14
Taylor Hawkins was a super talented singer, songwriter and an outstanding mother effin drummer. Very rarely do drummers have an opportunity to standout because they are hiding behind the kit, but in Taylor’s case he shined as bright as sun. This dude had an infectious personality that you couldn’t help but to love. Here he is singing Queen’s ‘Under Pressure’ at an epic private show I attended at Irving Plaza in NYC 12/6/14. I will never forget this night 😢
