On the heels of our 21st offshore season. Here's a few exciting things we have in store.
OPA is excited to make the announcement. The addition of the Pompano Beach Powerfest is official. Pending a meeting for final approval, and with the Roar Offshore event off the table for the near future. Pompano Beach jumped at the opportunity to host the OPA National Championships. We’re excited to work with the board, and local officials down in Pompano Beach. “These guys are no strangers to the sport, and have all of the ingredients to make something really special of this event.” “Smitty” Ed Smith, President of OPA Racing added, “When Ft Myers and Englewood got hit there was a lump in our throats, they’re both moving forward with efforts geared toward recovery, and the race. But it’s great to see another south Florida event hit the calendar.” The event will encompass the entire city of Pompano Beach. With all of the bells and whistles of a multi-year event. You wouldn’t know they were in their inaugural season. Stay up to date with all things Pompano by liking and subscribing to our media outlets.
In late 2019, Randy Schism and the folks at MTI. Collaborated with OPA to write the rule book for the 450 Stock class. In the beginning the class had its share of skeptics. The 450 class boasted 3-5 boat, boat counts in 2022. The class has been a tremendous success. Going into 2023 OPA has a new mission. Get the noise back. For the past few years, “Evil” Ed Smith has been campaigning the Vee Extreme entry Knuckleheads Racing. Faithfully running the OPA circuit. A constant fan favorite. To date, Ed has run his 40’ Fountain unopposed. That is all about to change. Team Farnsworth has purchased the surface driven “Taboo” from the family of the late Bill Mazzoni. Frank Mccomas “Scorpion Enterprise”, has signed on to build the engines for Team Farnsworth. In the north, Wazzup Motorsports is set to debut their 40’ Fountain in OPA’s kickoff event, the Loto Powerfest. With multiple teams on the sidelines, VX could see a field of 5 or 6 by the years end.
The annual OPA Winter Awards Party is coming up. It will be in New Jersey. We’re working out the final details of the event. More information on the event will be posted in the coming weeks. We’d like to take an extra moment to acknowledge and congratulate the champions. 2022 saw incredible competition at all levels of the sport. Many of the classes were separated by just a few points. While we take this time to celebrate the top of the sport. It’s also time to reflect on the seasons ups, and downs. Prepare and get the boats ready for another jammed packed season of offshore powerboat racing. We can’t wait to see you at the races.
