We have some important updates to share with you concerning the This Could Go Boom! Festival scheduled to take place July 27th, 2024 in Greenbelt, MD with funding from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA) and our supporters. Our team of volunteers has been working tirelessly towards that goal. However, details concerning the timeline and location of the festival have led us to review and rethink our original plans. When faced with difficult decisions, we always return to our mission to check in with how our choices will impact our community and the artists and audiences we serve.

The TCGB! Steering Committee is in unanimous agreement that we can best honor our commitment to champion and celebrate gender diverse voices in music by 1) Extending our timeline into 2025 and 2) working with the full support and continued funding of MHAA to build a collaborative enthusiastic partnership with a new location (TBD) in the Anacostia Trailways Heritage Area.

While the idea of postponing is disappointing, we are re-invigorated knowing that we can ensure a day of music made by women, nonbinary, gender fluid, genderqueer, transmasculine, and gender expansive artists with access for diverse audience members of all ages and backgrounds in the most creative, empowering, inclusive, and fun way possible.

We hope that you will join us in our continued preparation. We welcome your ideas, questions, and suggestions! If you’re interested in joining the volunteer planning team please see our call to volunteers below. We’re looking forward to sharing our new date and location with you. Stay tuned!

Sincerely,
The TCGB! Board and the This Could Go Boom! Festival Steering Committee

TODAY! Important call to action for music lovers, venues, and musicians from Listen Local First:

Maryland musicians, venues and allies, I wanted to let you know that there's a very good new bill in the Maryland legislature that needs your support.

The bill makes it easier for artists and venues to get tickets to fans at the intended price, without brokers and resellers extracting revenue and diverting it away from our communities by grabbing up tickets and selling them at inflated prices with jacked up fees. It bans speculative ticketing, caps resale fees at 10%, and allows resale of tickets but only at face value.

It's supported by a whole range of artist and venue organizations and allies.

We need folks to come out and testify TOMORROW Feb 14 in person in Annapolis or via zoom. The hearing is at 1 pm but you have to sign up by 6 pm today. All the instructions are attached and you can call Kevin if you have any questions.

Basically everyone will get 2 minutes to make the case that live music economics for tours, shows and festivals are challenging, predatory and deceptive behavior by brokers and resellers doesn't help, but clear rules of the road that protect fans and artists will make a difference.

There will also be a house hearing next TUESDAY Feb 20 on the same bill, so if you can't participate tomorrow, we encourage you to join us Tuesday!
