City Council discussing watering down the DEI position and not following the consultants ( CMFR Coaching and Consulting)

Write letters come to city council Wednesday at 5:30. Make your voices heard.

1. Director position: Director = creating policy
2. Internal job duties: attend meetings make changes from within
3. Recruit the position seriously and competitively, not lowball and wait for mayor to ask for more because no viable candidates apply.
4. Pay Ban 14 on par with other Director level positions, one city council quotes, " I made more than this 10 years ago without a degree.
5. Be bold nationwide attacks on DEI, so let's change language
6. Checking comparables
7. Not taking the initiative to lead. Typical follow what other cities have done.
8. Consultant spoke to many in the community about what they wanted. CMFR made their recommendations and they are not being honored.
9. How much longer to restore and replace what is clearly needed.
10. Starting lower and hoping in the future there is political will and budget to change from a manager position to a director position.

08/26/2024

While I/we hope that our posts make an impression, say something meaningful to you, help guide people to create community, we know that it mostly falls into silence. Part of this is the inherent issues with social media, algorithms, and overstimulation (way to much useless s**t, lies, and sales pitches), but part of it is apathy, and desire for escape from the daily grind.

We get this and try to keep it short, interesting, and informational. We use imagery, and tell stories, we try to be engaging, and know that you want the why does this matter to me? (if you even get to that thought because of everything else).

What we do and why we do it is important to you, and it is often to complex a thought to deliver in 144 characters.

Here is our promise to you, if you take the time to look at our materials, we will do everything we can to create the foundation (with you and others) for human community, and help facilitate a grassroots network, based on the needs of you and the many, to change the face of Kitsap for all, and document the model for anyone anywhere to use.

Join us and we can, and will, change the world together, starting with Kitsap and the peninsula.

The Resilient Community Movement:

Welcome to our community focused on fostering resilience and connection among individuals who are passionate about creating a sustainable and thriving future for all. We believe that by coming together, sharing perspectives, and utilizing tools provided by Resilient Ecosystems and the Resilient Comm...

Just Another Pig at the Trough

Rant Ahead...

Trough

a long, narrow open container for animals to eat or drink out of.

Relevant to our lives as individuals and small business/organizations: Subscription services, delivery services, assisting services, AI services, software, apps, insurance, legal, medical, adjacent, administrative, and everything else.

Everyone is looking for their dollar, and no-one is offering anything meaningful for it. We are an economy of side hustles and subscription services lining up like pigs at a trough. (you are the trough)

It is not sustainable, and it costs time nobody has and takes attention from important things that get missed in the chaos.

Our economy is based on faith, well, we are running out of believers! When you cannot afford the basic human needs, it is hard to believe. We are constantly sold the idea that our wants are needs, and when we run out of credit... oops.

I try not to have this conversation, because we need faith until we can replace this mess with a real foundation and build our future. It is much harder to build from chaos and collapse than from an existing structure, no matter how bad it is. There is a model to build towards, what we need are to have the conversations and build the grassroots network that can create the change while the existing corporate government structures make noise and sell dreams.

It will get worse, but it is better to work from what we have than dig through the ruins for scraps.

Don't get mad, use the energy to connect and make change happen, don't protest, do the work of change. Grassroots is about coming together in diversity and inclusion and building a picture puzzle that envelops all of that and more. This is a picture of our human future, we can only create it together.

End of rant...

Research Volunteers Needed!!!

RESECO has an immediate need for research on low income housing in Kitsap:

We need a list of current housing (not planned)

We need the management company, owners, and the contact information.

We need this because we are working on a grant that could provide solar to many if not all of the current housing, along with wiring and roof upgrades.

Message us if you can do this.

Creating a better future for Washington.
Brynn is the strong, progressive leader and seasoned advocate that we need in Olympia.
Brynn’s commitment to accessible, affordable healthcare is unwavering. As a public interest lawyer, she has dedicated her career to this cause, firmly believing that everyone should have the right to quality healthcare.

Brynn’s work as an organizer and lobbyist with the ACLU of Washington has had a significant impact on our community. She played a key role in advancing marriage equality, the Washington Voting Rights Act, and criminal justice reform policies. Her service as a Law Clerk to Justice Mary I. Yu on the Washington Supreme Court and with Senator Patty Murray's team on the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions further demonstrates her commitment to public service.

Brynn serves on the board of Up From Slavery Initiative, the Suquamish Community Advisory Council, and was appointed by the Washington Supreme Court to serve on Washington State's Access to Justice Board, whose mission is to increase access to legal aid for all Washingtonians. Recognizing the importance of electing leaders who will fight for reproductive freedom and LGBTQ+ rights and protections, she has worked with the Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates PAC.

Brynn’s commitment to public service is deeply personal. She is the proud daughter of two navy veterans who instilled the value of serving others in her from a young age. Her mother, after her service, became a community college teacher, further inspiring Brynn’s dedication to education. As a Japanese American and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Brynn understands the importance of diverse representation and equal rights.

Supporting Brynn Felix is not just about an individual; it’s about shaping a better future for all of us. Let's stand together and make a difference!

ISSUES:
Health Care
Health care is a human right. Access to quality, affordable care should not depend on where you live or how much you make.
Brynn is a proven fighter for protecting consumer choice and autonomy, including the right to full-spectrum reproductive, gender-affirming, and end-of-life healthcare.

As a community health lawyer, Brynn has advocated for additional investments in behavioral health services, medical respite care for people experiencing homelessness, and healthcare access and services for immigrants. She supports universal healthcare - universal health insurance coverage and universal access to needed healthcare services. This requires investing in a robust healthcare workforce, increasing public insurance coverage options, and supporting the entire continuum of healthcare services available to communities.

Education
Access to quality education - from early learning and K-12 to post high school programs - plays a vital role in creating opportunity for all.
Brynn is committed to bolstering investments in early learning, K-12, and community and technical colleges. She believes all students deserve safe and welcoming schools and affordable post-high school opportunities to ensure that they have the chance to succeed at every level.

This means fully funding special education, ensuring fair wages for critical members of our education workforce, such as paraeducators and bus drivers, and reinforcing workplace and collective bargaining protections.

HousingEveryone deserves safe and affordable housing.
Brynn is committed to keeping people housed, creating more affordable housing options, and transit-oriented development. She supports programs that help people stay in their homes and promote a variety of housing options, including more multi-family housing. She supports rent stabilization, increasing investments in permanent supportive housing, and reducing barriers to building high density housing choices near transit.

Environment
The time is now to accelerate bold, climate action. This starts with upholding the Climate Commitment Act by voting NO on Initiative 2117 this November.
Communities today and future generations deserve cleaner air, land, and water. This requires taking proactive step to reduce carbon emissions, protect our watersheds, promote habitat restoration, and preserve legacy forests.
