Breckenridge Texan The Breckenridge Texan is an online news site covering the community of Breckenridge and Stephens County, Texas, and the surrounding area.

The Breckenridge Texan was founded in August 2017 by Breckenridge journalists Tony Pilkington and Carla McKeown. They drew on the input of many other local citizens when planning the website and its contents. The Breckenridge Texan will provide current news, entertainment and sports information. Pilkington and McKeown have extensive media experience, including daily, semi-weekly and weekly newspap

ers, blogs, websites and radio. Before moving to Breckenridge in 2002, the husband and wife published Lubbock Magazine, a monthly arts and entertainment publication. They also have freelanced for publications including Texas Highways, the New York Times, the Dallas Morning News, the Houston Chronicle, the Associated Press and many others. They look forward to continuing their journalism careers by providing Breckenridge, Texas, with the best news site possible.

There’s a “bicycle rodeo” for kids going on until 10 o’clock this morning, Friday, April 25, in the First Methodist Church parking lot, 419 W. Walker. There are free bike helmets, a bicycle obstacle course and a drawing for a free bicycle. It’s part of the Summer Safety Event hosted by AgriLife Extension and the Texas Department of Healthlth and Human Services. At 10:30, a water safety program, with free life jackets, will start in the First Methodist Christian Life Center. All of the events are free of charge.

During the storms Saturday night into early Sunday morning, the City of Breckenridge's booster pump apparatus at the west water tower sustained damage and caused a water leak, according to a media advisory from City Manager Cynthia Northrop Monday morning, April 21.
