Breaking tonight:
The Brandenburg City Council has tabled the employee license fee ordinance’s second reading, aka - employee income tax, until their August meeting. Over 150 citizens from across Meade County showed up to tonight’s meeting. After tabling the ordinance at the very beginning of the meeting until August, the council allowed the public to give impassioned comment for about an hour but refused to answer any questions about the ordinance. This upset many in the crowd. But Mayor David Pace said that the council only wanted to hear the public’s comments tonight so they could have another month to consider what was said and decide whether the second reading would move forward at the August meeting. Stay tuned for more in-depth coverage of tonight’s meeting and what’s to come.

While attending professional fireworks display is the safest way to enjoy fireworks this summer season, we know many families will choose to celebrate at home on the 4th of July. To ensure your celebrations remain safe and injury-free, keep these firework safety tips in mind:

🎇 Always have an adult supervise firework activities.
🎇 Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy.
🎇 Light fireworks one at a time, then move back quickly.
🎇 Never relight a "dud" firework.
🎇 Avoid pointing or throwing fireworks at people.
🎇 Never carry fireworks in your pocket.

Let’s make this 4th of July a safe and joyous one for everyone!
