🎨In Park Rapids, individuals with disabilities are learning how to weld and create art.

In our new episode of Common Ground PBS we hear from some of the instructors and clients on why they enjoy working at the Depot. The DAC instructors work alongside the clients to help guide them through different types of art, in return giving them a purpose in the community and a chance to display their art at the Tin Ceiling Art Gallery in Park Rapids, MN.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Barbara Malia Kipp.

You may recognize her from the documentary, Native Ball, a favorite program that we enjoy sharing with our viewers. In her memory we encourage you to watch and listen to her story that has reached millions of PBS viewers.

🏀About Native Ball: Annually, nearly 5,000 high school girls' basketball players earn a full-ride Division I scholarship. In 1992, only one was Native American: Blackfeet Nation’s Malia Kipp. Living in two worlds presented challenges and so did the pressure to succeed as a University of Montana Lady Griz. Through the support of her family and community, she carried the burden with resilience, grace and grit. Described by her Chief as “a warrior,” she blazed a trail – and heroic legacy – for other Native girls to follow. Throughout her life, she has been inspired by words spoken and lived by her Grandma Kipp, "No one said life would be easy, just know that it will be worth it.”
