Happy !

We all know posting photos is key to catching attention of readers! Make sure you are catching those eyes for good reason.

So often I've seen photos for clothing lines where the model was posed in an unflattering way, sponsor posts where the product wasn't visible (or look in top shape) or horse sale ad's that obviously didn't show the horse in its best form. A busy background can also take away from the photo's subject and purpose because its distracting to the viewer's eye.

The photos you choose represent you as well as your equestrian business so make sure they are leaving a good impression on your audience.

Its again!

Last week we touched on trusting the process as it takes a long time to create a social media following for your equestrian business.

Creating trust with your followers starts with consistently posting *quality* material over long periods of time. On average, it takes someone at least 7 views of your account for them to start trusting your posts. Week one featured a basic weekly guide to get you started.

If you have been following the guide for the last 5 weeks, you are just at the beginning of creating a trusting relationship with your current or new followers. Keep up the good work! If you're finding that making posts is overwhelming, remember that you can develop them ahead of time- when you're in a good headspace for creating content.

Sibelius's current status is a little different this morning as he is literally "in flight."

Junior Alvarado stepped into the irons for his last breeze prior to crossing the Atlantic. The duo worked across the Gulfstream oval in beautiful form.

Hey there! Happy ⭐️

We all know it's important to "tag" people/companies in posts to share online appreciation. Did you know there is a right and wrong way to do this?

Your company sponsor media team like to re-use your posts (Oh, Hey- Free advertising for you!!) but it looks tacky if you tag your saddle sponsor in a post about your glove sponsor. Not making product and company specific posts have the opposite effect because when you lump all your sponsors into one post, you are creating more work for the media team- they can't re-use posts about other companies and they shouldn't have to sort through your social media posts to find a post to re-use.

Moral of the story: Don't be lazy. Make company specific posts and only tag that company!

Have you been peeping at the Keenland September Sale yearling conformation photos or those European Auction sites and ever wondered how 'they' take perfect photos?

Would you like to elevate the appearance of your sale ads? Afterall, there endless amounts of bad conformation photos on horse ads then good ones....

A great conformation photo is a work of art, it shows your horses best attributes, makes you look like an elite professional. A mediocre or incorrect photo is easy to scroll by.

Let me introduce you to a secret.... it is as hard as it looks to create that perfect photo (I've helped capture 100's of these photos) but I'm here to help!

I've put together a PDF on tips on how to create a professional looking photo- shoot me a message to get a copy.

Not sure if your photo is share worthy? Send it to me- I'll give you a quick critique.

In the meantime, remember creating a great photo takes at least 3 people and don't stand under a tree!

Here are a couple super quick tips to elevate the visuals on your social media account.

1. You can always take a high def. video on your phone and screenshot! Simple, right? It is- and works to capture the right moment with a new product, selfie, or as we all know- capturing the perfect moment in your horse's stride.

2. Color coordinate! Pops of matching colors throughout can bring balance to the photo and add a professional edge to your social media posts which is so important when you're making posts for your sponsors

3. Don't forget to have fun!

In honor of let's talk about black and white photos!

The use of black and white composition in the busy, colorful world of social media can set your posts apart due to their simple beauty. All photo editing apps, software, cell phone filter options etc. have at least one black and white setting- so you can easily change your color photos to a black and white esthetic.

If you're new photography or unconfident behind the lense- whether it's your cell phone camera or a digital camera- taking photos in black and white can actually be simpler. It's easier to see lines, shapes, textures and if your composition is balanced because your eye isn't distracted by color.

Get to the streets (or the barn) remember the rule of thirds (from yesterday's post) and see how you like taking black and white photos.

Stay tuned, we have a couple more days of easy photography tips to elevate your social media presence. Don't forget to like/share/follow!

Have you heard of the Photography Rule of Thirds? This simple photography guideline can elevate your social media photos.

Instead of placing the main subject of your photo directly in the middle of your photograph, you can place the subject in the left or right third of the photo. This basic tactic can give you a guideline to create better photo compositions because this can create balance as well as movement in your picture. Our eyes naturally tend to "read" visuals from left to right instead of looking directly in the center of a photo. If the subject of the photo is moving, try to stage the photo so the subject is moving towards the center of the photo.

For example:
In my first photo I placed orange guidelines have three subjects spaced evenly apart in their own thirds. My second photo features the main subject in the left side of the photo moving towards the center of the composition and my third photo features the main subject in far right of the photo. Each photo is pleasing and interesting to the eye.

Let's elevate your social media game *this week* with some simple tips.

Tip 2: Crop your photos!! 👏🏻👏🏻 We all know that you can't manufacture a perfect setting when photographing horses and their people in their element. It's inevitable that you will capture a magical moment between horse and rider in a less than ideal setting. If you're cropped photo doesn't fit into a social media setting, use an app like Canva to manufacture a simple background to make your cropped photo fit into the desired size.

I love this photo of smiling at Tropical Cognac in the warmup at an event in Florida. I don't love the John Deer tractor, empty bleachers and photo bomb b***y- your eye doesn't know what focus on because there are so many different things going on in this picture, it's easy to miss the special moment between our horse and rider until the photo is cropped down.

This week I'm going to share some *easy* tips on how to elevate your social media game. Posts with photos are 650% more likely to get engagements then text only posts- which means having quality images is really important!

Tip 1:
When in doubt, take a bunch of pictures!!
Sounds simple right? It is- pick the picture that accurately helps you spread the message you are trying to share.

For example: These 3 photos were taken within 10 seconds of each other with the last 2 pictures taken within a second or two. If you look at the pictures as individuals- they each appear to tell a different story from mostly calm to a little extra exuberant (those pre-breeze feelings!!!) The horse and rider's expressions and body language change dramatically in a short amount of time. Don't stress about capturing the perfect moment. Take a lot of photos, the delete button is easy to push later!

Please share and if you know these riders-tag them!
