Santa Claus gets a lot of mail. We know this because, every year around this time, teachers at Boulder Elementary, Clancy Elementary, and Montana City Schools kindly send The Monitor copies of their students’ missives to Saint Nick. (Santa reads The Monitor religiously, so this is important.)

Rigorous journalistic examination of these notes reveals that an extremely high proportion of children have been good. Except when they haven’t been: Some disclose spats with their siblings, or failure to do chores. “I have been pretty much a brat this year, but I will try my hardest not to,” wrote one Montana City 2nd grader.

Some present the Big Guy with challenging requests. “Can you make my brother nice?” And “I want my spelling test to be 10 out of 10.” Others don't hesitate to lay on the compliments: “You are nice. You are a great man,” a Boulder student noted. “Sorry to make you work every Christmas,” wrote another. And: "You make everyone very happy. You fill their heart."

Indeed.

Enjoy 265 letters to Santa. Our paywall is down for this Yuletide feast.
