I have always had a knack for connecting and promoting the community, which has been perfected thanks to my audio work, as well as working at Gangplank Coworking, organizing the TechPhx conference, and managing daily operations at KWSS Radio. In September of 2012 a friend was looking for a social media manager for her small business, and asked for my help. That was the springboard, and has led to

other clients that needed the same assistance. I specialize in creating content, developing marketing and promotional strategies, and even the timing of posts to gain the most engagement organically. I provide social media management and marketing with a focus on community-building. It’s not just about advertising, it’s about connecting with your customers on a personal level. It means listening to their wants and needs, and responding to them directly. With my background in podcasting and radio I also understand the importance of various forms of communication to connect with your audience. I have experience in writing, recording, and audio editing to create quality content.

SATURDAY READS (link 👇): Newsrooms should collaborate with content creators. You have to go with the changing times, and the media has been slow. They throw links up on Facebook when the algorithm actually gives links less exposure in the timeline, or they post half-assed summaries on Instagram that no one is going to the 'link in bio' to read. Media outlets need to adjust their social media marketing just like any business does. I don't mean just start posting on TikTok either. https://digitalcontentnext.org/blog/2024/09/17/newsrooms-should-consider-collaborating-with-content-creators/

Every episode I have a marketing/promotions tip in addition to some great indie music from multiple genres, and I cover some music news as well. I'm biased but I think it's a pretty good time. Hope you will give it a listen and subscribe! 🎧

TIP TUESDAY: Don’t forget to acknowledge the venues where you have shows and events. // This is mostly for indie musicians. Too many times I see some excellent footage and all bands tagged, and the venue left out. Always tag the venue in your posts. The venues you are playing are small businesses, and they want to share your content to further their reach for future shows/events. Plus, it's just a nice thing to do. 😘

I've been narrating stories since 2004. Voice work is one of the services I offer, and it's a great way to keep my voice-skills in shape. My latest narration for Cast of Wonders is now available: https://www.castofwonders.org/2024/09/cast-of-wonders-602-all-consuming (time: 13min.)
This is probably one of the creepiest and disturbing stories I've read, because it is a very different take on living with an eating disorder. A very good and well-written story, and I did my best to portray the character in the most sensitive way possible. If horror/suspense genre is your thing, I hope you enjoy the story!

A huge throwback to yesterday and taking my mother (who is visiting from AZ) to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. I can't even begin to describe how lovely and interesting this place is. All I can say is put it on your list of things to do in Boston. https://www.gardnermuseum.org/

WISDOM WEDNESDAY: Words to contemplate.
Solo mediocrity is rampant, of course. We know that toasting the bread before making the sandwich makes it more delicious, but in service of convenience and speed, we skip a step.

It becomes a conspiracy when more than one of us is involved.

The freelancer who offers cheap and ordinary work finds customers who willingly engage with them.

The small company that gets worn down by the constant pressure to simply do a bit less and care a bit less, and decides to follow the mass market where it seems to want to go.

The thing about these conspiracies, though, is that many people have to go along for them to work.

In a big car company, it might take the agreement of 30 or 50 people before the new line gets to be a bit less magical. If just one or two folks stood up and said, “not on my watch,” the conspiracy wouldn’t work.

Like most conspiracies, this one isn’t a secret, nor is it well organized. It’s simply the result of short-term market pressures pushing individuals who used to care a lot to care a bit less.

TIP TUESDAY: Know what your audience is looking for and where. This could make some of you um, elder generations cringe, but the youngest in Generation Z are adults, spending money, making babies and families, all of those adulting things... and the three places they search for things is TikTok, Instagram and Google. Gen Z shows a distinct preference for using TikTok over Google for searching various topics. If you know where your audience is spending their time searching, it's easier to figure out where YOU need to be with what you're selling.
Read more about what generations search where in this great breakdown from Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/advisor/business/software/social-media-new-google/

Throwback Thursday to a year ago! Ok, 364 days, but I couldn't wait! I can't believe a year has gone by since we moved into our little house on the hill. Just a few changes on the outside, solar panels and we're working on reducing our lawn.
While I will always look back fondly and with much love on the life I made in AZ raising my family, starting my business and becoming Scene Mom to an amazing music scene, North/Central Massachusetts has become home.

TIP TUESDAY: Rethink the Link! Social Media is giving less priority in the algorithm to links, because they want to keep you on the site. Use graphics and add the link in the copy, but don’t rely on followers going to the link.
Video works too. In both cases you need to be compelling enough to have someone want to click to learn more, but without being actual "click bait."
Let's spend an hour and go over YOUR social media promotion strategy. We will have a good time, I promise! That's pretty compelling, isn't it?? 😁 https://danicutler.com/services/marketing-promotions/

The power of music is strong, as you will hear not just in the news and history shared, but also in this week's biz tip. AND the music- you get the power right from the source with 10 tracks from indie artists all over the US, and our neighbors to the north!

TIP TUESDAY: Know your audience and what they do with their time, then you will know where to market and promote your brand or products. Today happens to be National Radio Day, so I thought I would share some findings from a webinar I recently attended about how people discover music. Friends & Family, YouTube, and AM/FM radio were in the top spots overall, but the metrics change when you break it down into age groups. (For instance, Instagram and TikTok were higher for music discovery among 12-25 year olds and Radio was the top spot for 55+.)
When looking to advertise on radio, or a podcast, or any audio/video-based medium, always ask for demographics. This goes for promoting your music too, you need to know who's listening and if they would be interested in your music or your event. This is why independent radio is so important, it's very niche and targeted to people who are interested in supporting small, local, independent everything. 💜

I'm always grateful I'm able to work from anywhere, because it gave me the opportunity to dog sit this cute boy and explore the Washington DC area a bit. Plus I watched the Olympics all day while working. Something relatively new to me is travel by train. You just don't have the same options on the west coast. I definitely prefer it to air travel, and I got a glimpse of NYC too. Can't wait to visit more on the east coast now that I'm a New England resident!

SATURDAY READS: An interesting survey. Many Millennials and Gen Z see social media as overconsumption and are feeling the burnout. https://wwd.com/business-news/business-features/gen-z-social-media-overconsumption-credit-karma-1236513320/
"Looking specifically at Gen Z respondents, the top reason for being de-influenced is “unhealthy levels of overconsumption that social media product promotions drive” (38 percent). The authors of the report said that the finding is not surprising given that the young generation is also known for its eco-conscious behavior."

About Dani

Connecting people, that’s what I’m about. My name is Dani Cutler and I’m a digital marketer, social media manager, FM radio personality, and podcaster. From 2006-2012 I hosted, wrote, and produced a current events podcast called Truth Seekers. Connecting with the online community also led to voice-acting roles in audio dramas and books. In 2007 I became the mid-day announcer for KWSS 93.9fm Independent Radio based in Phoenix, Arizona. Since then I have also become the Promotions and Marketing manager for the station along with co-managing daily operations. Today I host the morning show every weekday from 6am-10am MST.

With the continuing growth of social media, I submerged myself in the technology-based community volunteering for PodcampAZ (now TechPhx). In 2012 I became the leader of the organizing committee, and it was very successful with over 200 attendees and 20+ speakers during the two-day event. I also spent a year organizing Brownbag presentations at Gangplank Chandler. Through these organizations I have gained insight into how social media and digital marketing works, and how best to connect with people, online and off.

You can see more about my experience via LinkedIn.
