Gov. Cooper's statement on legislators prioritizing power grabs over Western North Carolina recovery:

NEED HAS BEEN MET!
CARRYING WATER
Ashe County:
Disabled man has no running water inside his home. He is having to carry water from the outside faucet to drink, flush his toilet and take care of his personal needs. The cost to repair his water is $750 and there is no help available for him. He is just over the income guidelines for assistance. He desperately needs to get his water fixed before the weather gets too cold.

Water Progress! Water pressure has been restored to many customers of the Town of Banner Elk. If you have water, you are now under a Boil Water Advisory. The Division of Water Resources advises to boil water (vigorously for 1 minute) used for human consumption - including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation. Or use bottled water for these. Additional water and sewer repairs are underway.

Water may be used for flushing toilets, laundry, bathing, and washing hands for basic personal hygiene. During bathing, please monitor small children to ensure they do not accidentally drink the water. Infants can be given sponge baths. If your dishwasher has a sanitizing cycle or reaches a final rinse temperature of at least 170°F, you can use it. If hand-washing dishes, wash and rinse dishes using hot water, then soak them in a solution of 1 tablespoon of unscented bleach per gallon of warm water for at least one minute. Allow the dishes to air dry completely before using them again.

We continue running required tests before lifting the boil water advisory. No pressure in the distribution system increased the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Water Update
Water has been restored to many areas in our service area. The areas who remain without water are primarily due to damaged water lines. Some of the areas waiting on line repairs include:

Beaver Creek Road
Ollis Road (parts)
Gouges Creek Road
Forest Hill Drive (parts)
Andrea Court (parts)

If you have had no water since the storm and do not live in one of the listed areas, please let us know at the Town Hall (828-765-3000). We are so grateful for a crew from the City of Greensboro who are helping us with this daunting task.

Remember that it is still necessary to cut water off in different sections to be able to make repairs in other areas, so water comes and goes. These outages are unpredictable, so we appreciate your patience.

Also, our entire water system remains under a boil notice, which means you must boil any water intended for human consumption for at least one minute.

Calling all volunteers! Normally, we do not operate on the 5th week of the month. However, our community needs constant help and support these days. Here's our schedule. We need volunteers to arrive 30 minutes before and stay until 30 minutes afterward. We are DRIVE-THRU ONLY through November.
Wednesday, October 30, 9:30am-2:30pm (feel free to wear fun costumes)
Friday, November 1, 12:30pm-5:30pm

Below are a few more updates:
• We will distribute special Thanksgiving food boxes next month as a way to help our partner, Rams Rack, during this busy season.
• WCNC Charlotte (NBC news station) delivered hundreds of new winter coats, socks, hats, and sleeping bags. Just to clarify - Feeding Avery Families is NOT in the clothing business. We accepted these donations to help our local partners with storage.
• Sally is staying on as interim Executive Director through spring. We plan to launch a search for the next Executive Director in January 2025.
