Bicyclette Cookshop Executive Chef Kayla Pfeiffer of Naples won the “Chopped” championship on the Food Network’s season finale show that first aired Tuesday night. The local chef watched the final episode with her staff and guests at her new restaurant, Bicyclette Cookshop, in The Pavilion shopping center on the northwest corner of Vanderbilt Beach Road and U.S. 41 in North Naples.

Michael and Naddya Mueckenhausen are ready to open their newest restaurant at 1616 Cape Coral Parkway W., Unit 101, in the Publix-anchored Camelot Isles Shopping Center in southwest Cape Coral. On the heels of mid-December’s heavy rainfall that caused water from Charlotte Harbor to break through floodgates, enter storm drains and flood Punta Gorda’s historic district, residents braced for another round of heavy rainfall Jan. 9 amid high tide, which will occur around midnight.

Last week, several residents took their concerns about flooding before Punta Gorda City Council. Mayor Lynne Matthews and council members directed City Manager Greg Murray to conduct a study of what can be done to safeguard homes from future flooding.

Two referendums have been added to the Marco Island 2024 presidential primary election ballot after votes by City Council on Jan. 8. One referendum proposes to change the chair and vice-chair titles to mayor and vice-mayor, and the second proposes raises to Council salaries.

During a Charlotte County-Punta Gorda Metropolitan Planning Organization meeting Dec. 18, Punta Gorda Mayor Lynne Matthews said the hotel’s owner applied for a permit Nov. 7 to demolish the two-story section, including the now-closed Hurricane Charley’s Sushi, Raw Bar and Grill and the hotel’s pool.
