join Po1 as we mark 70 years of cambodian independence // on 9 november 1953, the country ended eight decades of colonial control from france

during the 1950s-1970s, khmer artists released some of my favorite rock music. artists around the country combined traditional music w. styles from records imported from around the world to create their own unique sound
•
despite thousands upon thousands of songs released during this time, the music scene in cambodia took a massive hit when the khmer rouge regime took power in 1975. many musicians you will hear tomorrow on the show disappeared or were executed during the genocide that lasted from 1975-1979
•

@kishi_bashi + @talltalltrees "atticus, in the desert" off the 2013 album "151a" // performed live at boise's egyptian theater • this track was always one of my favorites growing up. hearing this unreal live take at the 2024 day of remembrance was an unbelievable (almost) end to the night after the screening of "omoiyari" • the day of remembrance is a day we observe the incarceration of japanese americans during world war ii. on february 19, 1942, president franklin d. roosevelt signed executive order 9066. this order authorized the removal of persons deemed a national security threat from the u.s. west coast. although the order never explicitly stated "japanese americans" in the order, almost all those sent to interment camps were people of this heritage. over 125,000 japanese americans were relocated and incarcerated between 1942 and 1946 • idaho's minidoka war relocation center imprisoned over 13,000 people. by population alone, the camp would have been the 7th largest city in the state at the time. today, you can visit the minidoka national historic site and visitor center
