Sometimes in life you can’t get more lucky.. and things work out better than you could have ever imagined.

That’s absolutely my reality with this intelligent, driven, silliest of the gooses, big dreamer, fireballontheoutside-softlilmarshmallowontheinside woman.

My mom has been a constant model of endurance, intelligence, and persistence.. getting a BS, MS, and PhD all while raising two young boys.

I would have never of thought that I’d be able to go to graduate school for ANYTHING if it wasn’t for her modeling and encouragement.
🎓
Despite all the ups and downs I’ve been through in my life, I’ve always felt incredibly grateful for the mother I got.

Woke up feeling 80,000 times better.
🤓
It’s natural in life that we go through lows… but for so many of us we don’t talk about it.
We lose connection with ourselves because of stress, anxiety, depression, trauma… or the constant changes of LIFE.
But then we put on a face and give the quick response of “I’m fine” to coverup our suffering.
What I want you to know is you don’t have to drift through these times alone!
Therapy is an awesome place for healing… and yet often what we need is to be open and vulnerable with those around us to get the connection and release the suffering we’ve been pushing down.
You will find that when you step into vulnerability it will illuminate what relationships truly matter.
I hope you give yourself a chance to be heard, seen, and understood… you deserve it!!!
Thank you for all the love and helping crush mental health stigma every day!

I’ve loved watching this account grow over the past few months with people interested in crushing mental health stigma!
Here’s a bit about me:

- I grew up in Northeast Ohio as a 90’s kid who idolized Tony Hawk
- I got interested in mental health as a result of my father and brother passing away
- I was lucky enough to have an awesome therapist back then and I continue to practice what I preach and go to therapy now
- I very much believe that the biggest difference you will ever make in this life will only occur when you are authentically YOU
- Some of my all time favorite bands are: Blink 182, Green Day, Weezer, CCR, Catfish and The Bottlemen & Twenty One Pilots

There really is no point in comparing traumas because it means nothing without the uniqueness of how the event was experienced.

🌴 I’m a licensed psychologist living in south Florida.

✨ My passion is breaking stigma surrounding mental health by having open conversations, sharing my story and providing psychoeducational information!

🙌🏽 Although I can’t provide you specific therapeutic advice, I love answering your questions about mental health here on Insta, during lives (often on TikTok), and in my story!

Being able to define any psychological or mental health phenomenon is important!
But as a therapist my concern lies not whether something is or is not “trauma” but rather are people seeking treatment for events that ARE impacting their mental health!
Whatever you’ve been through, I hope you understand that you deserve to tell your story and be heard.

These symptoms can feel AWFUL but it is a common result of unearthing and moving through the thoughts and emotions we’ve buried for so long.
Regulating activities slow you down, allow you to be present, and give you release, which is critical to balancing-out the hard work of therapy.

A few other points since 60 seconds is never enough..
I wouldn’t recommend replacing Alex’s toy right away. Maybe there is a way they can “earn it” back or just have time to understand that things aren’t always easily replaced.
Another point, logical consequences can open opportunities to model values.
Having Susie apologize to the neighbor and offer to help replace the damaged flowers models “being a good neighbor.”

NO. There is no perfect discipline strategy.
YES. You may have to place your child back in the timeout area multiple times and reexplain the consequence.
All of us parents need to be flexible and try strategies that teach consequences without damaging them.
There are always multiple opportunities in any situation to make it educational.. I’ll talk more about this in the next video.

All of us are capable of learning new information and applying it to our lives... not all of us are open to it.
If I’ve learned anything as a psychologist it’s you can’t convince people of things they don’t want to hear.

I don’t love running.
Yep. That’s pretty much the face I make the entire time.
But I do it because I know it’s good for me. It helps me regulate and release stress. I don’t always feel like doing it but afterwards I typically feel energized and more at peace.
The same holds true with meditating. I don’t always look forward to doing it and during each session I can feel very different.
Sometimes I’m distracted by thoughts, anxious about 99 things going on in my life, or trying to predict the future.
But I do it because it allows me to notice my mind and move towards being in the present, more balanced, more myself.
Don’t give up on your self-care because of how you feel before or during. Do it because you are building a healthy life for yourself in the long run.
Keep progressing!

Giving direct advice has a time and place.
That time and place is usually after boosting intrinsic motivation by asking great questions.
Give it a try on your friends, partner, or family. You might see or shifts as opposed when you just tell them what to do.

Everyone can grieve a breakup differently and it’s important to process and express whatever you feel.

I hope eventually you embrace that there is no freedom quite like being single (especially when you don’t have kids).

It’s not to say this is better or worse, but different chapters of our lives have perks to enjoy.
