Ricky Farley has owned and operated Alabama Canine Law Enforcement Officer’s Training Center since 1992. He has had the privilege of training police service canines for over 28 foreign countries as well as over 1500 police departments inside the United States.

Over his 21-year career, Ricky has trained canines in areas of narcotics, explosives, accelerant, and cadaver detection as well as apprehension. He has made numerous television appearances on issues pertaining to police service canines, assisted both large and small departments in writing their canine policies and procedures, given civil liability lectures along with search and seizure law updates, and lectured over 2000 individuals in canine bite prevention.

Aric Harris

Aric Harris grew up in the Schutzhund, and Law Enforcement canine training industry. He competed in competition obedience and USCA/ GSDCA Trials since he was a teenager. He has both studied and instructed helper work, decoying, street and sport work bite mechanics around the world, culminating a broad and varied experience along the way.

Aric and his team competed in the WDA National Championship in the Police Dog division, bringing several placements including 1st place in the Police Dog lvl 2.

On top of his professional training and Sport development career, Aric is well known for working with Law Enforcement agencies and private security companies around the world in troubleshooting K9 behavior and modernizing development/ continued training of future K9 assets. His driving force is the modernization of training methods to improve the performance and efficiency in protection and L.E. K9’s. As an instructor, Aric has a hands on and engaging energy approach to demonstrating and teaching his classes.

Congratulations, K-9 Birdie! 💙

Meet the newest addition to our Digital Forensics Unit, K-9 Birdie!

Birdie is an Electronic Storage Detection K-9 trained to seek out electronic devices believed to contain evidence of a crime. She can assist detectives on search warrants by sniffing out flash drives, hard drives, cell phones, or any other devices that a suspect may have hid!

Birdie, a 2-year-old black lab, was purchased from Jordan Detection K9 using grant funds. She has undergone extensive specialized training, alongside her dedicated handler, Detective Corporal Mark Moy.

We can’t wait to show you what she can do!

Paratroopers assigned to 2-82 Assault Helicopter Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, assist K9 handlers with a familiarization flight on March 8th, 2024, at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. These familiarization flights are necessary to help these K9 teams adjust to flying in an aircraft.

With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of retired K9 Bravo, a beloved member of our police family. Bravo served our community with unmatched dedication and loyalty, protecting and serving in countless ways throughout his career. Bravo received numerous awards for his bravery in serving our community. He was an amazing partner to not only Sgt. Sorteberg, but the entire APD family.

In retirement, he enjoyed a well-deserved life of love, care, and treats. Bravo left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Bravo’s legacy reminds us of the bond and partnership between officers and their K9 partners—a bond built on trust, courage, and devotion.

Rest easy, Bravo. Thank you for your service.
