Using Apple barrel in white and nutmeg and some mod podge to create this whimsical Christmas book decor!
Thanks to the boys (Charlie, Joshua and Logan) for a lovely birthday! Thank you to all my family and friends for the beautiful and many wishes throughout the day! Blessed!
4 large apples
½ cup old-fashioned oats
¼ cup lightly packed coconut sugar or brown sugar
¼ cup chopped pecans (if desired)
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of salt (optional)
4 tablespoons butter, melted
¾ cup water (1/4 for in the mixture)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Mix together the oats, sugar, pecans, cinnamon and salt, then add in melted butter. Add approx 1/4 cup of water into the crumbled mix and stir until combined and moistened throughout. Set aside.
Slice off the top of the apples approximately ¾ to 1-inch from the top. Then use a small knife to loosen the core and spoon to scoop out the inside, leaving at least ½-inch around the edges and along the bottom. Be sure you don’t cut through the bottom of the apple.
Place the apples upright into a baking dish so they are not touching. If the apples can’t stand on their own slice off a small piece on the base to make them more stable. Spoon that yummy filling evenly into the apples and piling any remaining filling around the top of the holes before placing the apple tops back on.
Pour the remaining water into the base of the dish to surround the apples. Bake the apples for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a skewer or small paring knife inserted through the side and down to the base meets only mild resistance. If you prefer softer apples, try baking them for the full 55 minutes. Mine were quite big and took just over an hour! These were even better heated back up the next day!
Serve with fresh cream or a bit of vanilla ice cream if desired.
