He'll be back on stage locally this Friday alongside another BTown Kid (Jake Dodds) as they play together for the first time at Bloomington's iconic The Bluebird...

A 13-year old sits down with an NBA lottery pick (mind you, the Number 1 overall selection) to talk life and love of the game...

That conversation changed everything for the kid - and SHE would wind up in the Hall of Fame!

She enters as the 1st Indiana Volleyball player ever elected into the Indiana University Athletics Hall of Fame !!

Her story is quite 'unique' and one of determination and drive; a chip off the 'ol block (if you will); one half of the 1st ever Father/Child tandem to achieve HoF status at IU - an absolute joy to share her tale!!

Our guest today is the youngest of 3 kids born to a former track star and ball coach in Southern Illinois... so, as you can guess, she grew up a Green Bay Packers fan ??

To be fair, the Green Bay thing comes honestly, as her roots go very deep in the state of Wisconsin; but, funny enough, it was tennis, track/field & basketball that won her heart early on and NOT the Green & Gold Gods of football from the Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field.

Thanks to two older brothers - competing and a serious work ethic were a constant for her as she grew up.

As her sporting skills (and toughness) developed over the years and she began to hone her abilities on the hardwood, some of the biggest D1 schools in the country began to take notice. The SEC, ACC and of course, The Big Ten came calling.

Offers began pouring in early in various sports, including one from Indiana University.

One visit to campus would seal the deal in her sophomore year of high school and she would commit to play basketball for the Hoosiers! After scoring an Illinois record 4897 points(go ahead and read that again), she would arrive on campus and team with a young baller from Ohio, lovingly referred to as 'B', to form the foundation that is the national powerhouse - Indiana Women's Basketball team.

Recently married, she and her husband were kind enough to join us all the way from Lithuania to chat life, basketball, big brothers and Bloomington...

Today's guest hails from West Central Indiana, and a small town nestled in the Northwest corner of Clay County. He and his wife now call Florida home, but for just shy of 50 years - he was(and still is) an Indiana Hoosier through and through.

As a young man, he would find himself working in print journalism in Brazil, IN and in Terre Haute; There, chance would have it, he'd cross paths with the future broadcast voice of Indiana Athletics, Don Fischer. Fast forward a few years and one of those rare, life-altering opportunities would present itself in the form of a makeshift audition at a high school basketball game, where the then Assistant A.D. for IU was in attendance, Mr. Ralph Floyd.

The rest, as they say, is history.

So a Chicagoland IU legacy and a homegrown Cutter walk into a bar; or, in this case, the IU Auditorium...

What started out on stage at BMOC as a mutual respect and kinship for their respective talents, would lead to an idea to tweak and remix the schools iconic fight song. Little did they know - that creative spark would change the career arc of expectations for these two as their entire lives ahead of them.

And so began a decade+ friendship and working collaboration that would eventually see them leave Bloomington to launch careers in the music industry - one in Los Angeles; while the other currently residing in Nashville, TN.

Their music publishing deals would allow them to have Grammy Award winning artist and 2023 Super Bowl halftime entertainer Rihanna, record one of their songs; and the musical journey that began in late 2009, continues on to this day.

With well over 7 million YouTube hits on their signature song; these two Hoosier grads will forever be linked to Bloomington. Their impact on campus culture while in town (and certainly after) was undeniable... we're so happy to have as our guests on this second episode of Beyond BTown: the architects and entertainers behind song, 'This Is Indiana' ...
