Auburn had been snake-bitten much of this season, leading opponents throughout games, but losing at the end.

The Tigers faced that probability again against Texas A&M on Saturday night, but senior quarterback Payton Thorne took charge at the start of game and at the end to keep that from happening. He led Auburn to a 21-0 lead midway through the second quarter. Then in the dying minutes of the game with the Aggies holding a three-point lead, he led the Tigers on a 15-play do-or-die drive to tie the game on a field goal with just five seconds remaining, forcing overtime.

After three overtimes, the score was still tied when KeAndre Lambert-Smith caught a pass from Thorne across the middle of the end zone providing the two points needed for the 43-41 win.

For the game, Thorne threw for 301 yards and with two touchdown passes, ran for another 38 yards, led the final 15-play scoring drive and completed the game-winning overtime pass.

For his performance, Payton Thorne has been recognized as winner of the Academy Sports Award, Player of the Week.

Auburn was used to this scenario.

Start well … Lead most of the game… Outgain, outplay your opponent.

Then, lose at the end.

Remember Oklahoma. Remember Missouri.

This time is was Texas A&M.

After opening with a 21-point deficit, the Aggies roared back to force overtime. Four of them, to be exact. In the fourth frame, Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne connected with KeAndre Lambert-Smith, scoring the go-ahead two-point conversion to complete the upset of the CFP-hopeful Aggies.

Lambert-Smith's catch has been named this week's U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish "Catch of the Week." Read the full release here: https://www.lindyssports.com/college-football/sec/auburn/column/overtime-completion-wins-big-one-for-auburn/571440/

Playing on its home field, South Carolina had taken an impressive 21-6 halftime lead over Missouri and seemed to have things under control. But apparently somebody forgot to inform the Tigers and with just over a minute to play, the visitors had taken the lead.

Tigers quarterback Brady Cook had thrown a 37-yard catch-and-run to Luther Burden III with just 1:10 to go to take a 30-27 lead. The Gamecocks offense and its freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers had only a minute for a miraculous scoring drive to avoid the loss.

Pressure … no problem.

Sellers drove his team inside the red zone, then tossed a Utah pass to former Arkansas running back “Rocket” Sanders who carried it for the 34-30 final margin.

Sanders' catch has been named as this week's U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish "Catch of the Week."

South Carolina has been one of the Southeastern Conference’s hottest teams in the past month.

The 34-30 win over Missouri on Saturday was the Gamecocks’ fourth consecutive victory and improved the season record to 7-3.

Freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers has been a primary reason for the team’s continuing improvement … and he saved his best for the win over the Tigers. He completed 21 of 30 passes for 353 yards and a career-high five touchdown throws. He added 45 yards on the ground to produce 398 total yards in the game. His game-winning touchdown pass, a 15-yard catch-and-run, came in the final minute of the contest.

For his performance, LaNorris Sellers has been recognized as the winner of the Academy Sports Award, Player of the Week.

Two weeks ago, a postseason bowl bid seemed unlikely for East Carolina. The Pirates were 3-4 on the season and had little room left for error. Now, they need just one more victory to earn bowl eligibility. Much of the credit goes to quarterback Katin Houser.

On Thursday, the redshirt sophomore who transferred from Michigan State had a career day against Florida Atlantic. He threw a 50-yard touchdown pass on the game’s second play and never looked back. For the game, he completed 17 of 22 passes for 343 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for 52 yards and another score, averaging over 10 yards per carry, leading the Pirates to 581 yards total offense.

For his performance, Katin Houser has been recognized as winner of the Academy Sports Award, Player of the Week. A win over Tulsa on Saturday would make East Carolina bowl eligible.

It was getting late for Jacksonville State. With just four seconds to play, the Gamecocks trailed by six and needed a miracle to win the game.

That's when quarterback Tyler Huff threw up a prayer, connecting with his outstanding receiver, Cam Vaughn, who was standing in the end zone to tie the game.

Jax State would go on to win, 44-37, in overtime, to earn bowl eligibility for the second season in a row.

Vaughn's catch was named as this week's U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish "Catch of the Week." Read the full release here: https://www.lindyssports.com/college-football/c-usa/jacksonville-state/column/vaughns-miracle-catch-sets-up-jax-states-overtime-win/570865/

Joseph Himon made the big plays for Northwestern on Saturday, supplying what was needed in the 26-20 overtime over Purdue.

With the score tied at 3-3 late in the first quarter, he scored on a 51-yard touchdown run, breaking a tackle at the line of scrimmage, then evading tacklers on his sprint to the end zone.

But his biggest play came in overtime.

Facing fourth-and-6 at the 22-yard line, Himon caught the game-winning pass from quarterback Jack Lausch to secure the overtime victory.

That scoring catch has been chosen as the U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish “Catch of the Week.”

Ole Miss fans had high expectations heading into the 2024 season. The Rebels were ranked No. 5 nationally by Lindy’s and were a contender for the Southeastern Conference Championship Game and College Football Playoff. But already with two conference losses, a defeat to Arkansas in Fayetteville on Saturday would end those dreams.

Quarterback Jaxson Dart quickly made sure that didn’t happen and he did it in record-setting fashion, leading the Rebels to a 63-31 victory.

By halftime, the Rebel signal-caller had thrown for four touchdowns and 321 yards while already leading, 35-10. His final statistics included 25 of 31 passing for 515 yards, six scores and no interceptions, adding another 47 yards on the ground, setting the program record for single-game passing touchdowns and yards.

For his performance, Jaxson Dart has been recognized as winner of the Academy Sports Award, Player of the Week, leaving his team still in the championship hunt as Georgia comes to Oxford next Saturday.

13th-ranked BYU was on the verge of dropping its first game of the season. Trailing Oklahoma State, 35-31, with just 1:13 to play, the Cougars needed a score to stay atop the Big 12. That's when quarterback Jake Retzlaff found his favorite target, Darius Lassiter, who made the Cowboys' defense look silly as he galloped to the end zone to give BYU the 38-35 victory.

Lassiter's catch and run has been named as this week's U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish "Catch of the Week."

After LSU's defense forced a field goal in overtime, it took the Tigers' offense just one play to win the game. After going in motion before the snap, Lousiana native Kyren Lacy sprinted to the end zone, where he hauled in a bullet pass from his quarterback, Garrett Nussmeier.

With this catch, LSU completed the late-game comeback and re-entered itself into the College Football Playoff conversation. For Lacy, this grab was named as this week's U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish "Catch of the Week."

Alabama jumped all over Georgia, taking a 30-7 lead into the locker room. The Bulldogs rallied back in the second half to take a 34-33 lead, with just under three minutes to play.

When it looked grim for Alabama, the Tide turned to their star duo, as Jalen Milroe found 17-year-old Ryan Williams on the sideline. Williams made the defense look silly as he ran the game-winning score into the end zone.

Williams' catch has been named as this week's U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish "Catch of the Week." Read the full release here: https://www.lindyssports.com/college-football/sec/alabama/column/ryan-williams-late-catch-saves-alabama-from-defeat/569221/

It looked like Vanderbilt had avoided the road upset after scoring a go-ahead touchdown with 1:14 to play. It took Georgia State just 59 seconds to drive down the field and score the game-winning touchdown on this 25-yard reception by Ted Hurst.

Hurst's late-game heroics have earned the honor as this week's U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish "Catch of the Week."

Fans and media had questioned how quarterback Arch Manning would perform when handed the keys to the University of Texas offense. The heralded redshirt freshman emphatically supplied that answer on Saturday in the 56-7 win over UTSA.

Playing due to an injury to Heisman Trophy candidate Quinn Ewers, Manning completed a long touchdown pass on his first play of the game, then scored on a 67-yard run. For the game, he completed nine of 12 passes for 223 yards and four scores with no interceptions.

For his performance, Arch Manning has been recognized as the winner of the Academy Sports Award, Player of the Week.
