Simple things are so important. As a veteran of music and the local scene, with 22 years experience, nothing warms my heart faster than a young person taking up music. My mother instrument is the Drumset starting at 12 years old. So seeing this young man tear it up was a joy. I saw him warming up in the hallway, so focused. Passion is where talent is born. What impressed me most was his use of the hi hat with his second foot to keep time. (I know grown drummers who can't do that). Having all 4 limbs going sets him up for his future drumming with complex drum lines like 16th note triplet linear patterns and polyrhythms. His precision and time keeping? Superb. If there's one thing I want this young man to know, is he has skill and promise. I started right where you were once. Now in my 30s I just closed my year with 60 commissions that were paid for pieces of music across the globe. from the Philippines to Finland. And, like I said, I started on drums.
