NEWS RELEASE:
FROM: BIG SPRING SYMPHONY ASSOCIATION
DATE: DECEMBER 16, 2024

The Big Spring Symphony will be presenting The Nutcracker Ballet this Saturday, December 21st at 5:30 PM at the Big Spring Municipal Auditorium located at 310 E. 3rd. Doors will open at 4 PM and patrons are encouraged to arrive early. This live performance will be under the direction of Dr. Fagner Magrinelli Rocha and will feature the talented dancers of Ballet San Angelo performing with the magnificent Big Spring Symphony musicians.

TICKETS are general admission and on sale NOW at HEB, Heritage Museum, Karat Patch and online 24/7 at bigspringsymphony.org. Prices are $25 for Adults, $20 for Seniors 55+ and FREE for ALL students college level and down. Tickets will be sold at The Door, but patrons are strongly encouraged to buy in advance. Free student tickets are online at the regular ticket link on the website.

Parking is always a challenge downtown with an event of this size. The Ryan family is allowing parking at the old Big Spring Police Department. The Shroyer Motor Company is moving cars to arrange parking on their used car lot facing 4th Street, including anything adjacent to the church area and Terry Nichols has opened up parking at the former Greyhound Bus Station. The handicap accessible entrance is on the east side of the auditorium. We encourage people to carpool if possible and we are asking those patrons that are fully mobile to leave the closer parking spots open for those that are not.

Here are some other important announcements to consider. There will be a fully functioning climate-controlled restroom trailer in the west alley available for attendees with full mobility. The Symphony Guild will be selling bottled water provided by Culligan for any donation for their student Scholarship fund and Nutcracker ornaments for a suggested donation of five dollars - while supplies last. Culligan also provided the water for all the performers and musicians. There will be holiday treat bags distributed after the performance sponsored by Trinity Baptist Church.

This incredible holiday experience has been made possible by the generosity of many donors, including Big Spring Area Community Foundation, Jake Martin, Dora Roberts Foundation, The Broughton Foundation and Permian Basin Area Foundation. The Symphony is also grateful to First Presbyterian Church for providing meals to the musicians and the HEB Helping Here Program for providing gift cards to help provide lunch to the Ballet.

Follow the Big Spring Symphony page, local media and the website at bigspringsymphony.org for updates.

STATE NATIONAL NAMES EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

Caitlin Rawls has been named the State National Bank’s employee of the year for 2024. ”It was a big shock when I heard my name called,” says Caitlin. “Since I had been at the bank for less than a year and a half.“ She worked in the bookkeeping department and admits while growing up she had never considered bookkeeping at a bank to be in her employment future. Her previous jobs had been with the Humane Society, Wall-Mart and the Dora Roberts Rehab Center.
“I had a Facebook friend who told me the bank was hiring, so I applied and got the job. My Facebook friend also worked at the bank, so I knew that I would know at least one person who worked there. Working here has been an amazing experience. The people have been such a big help in learning my way around the bookkeeping department. My family has also been so supportive.”
Caitlin is the 3rd generation of her family to live in Big Spring. “I’ve got several aunts and uncles who help with out young kids. I have 3 sons and one daughter ranging in age from 3 to 10. The main hobby my husband Kenneth and I have is following our kids around to soccer and baseball games. We also love to play with our 3 dogs. We have Rottweiler, a Dalmatian and a Heinz 57, which is my favorite.”
Her father, Wesley Boren, worked for Western Container and when it shut down, he moved the family to Las Vegas, then to Virginia, then to California working in the plastic bottling business. Caitlin said he was very good at his work and the companies wanted him. “I was glad to see some of the country and explore some new places but we were all glad to settle down in Big Spring where I grew up.”
Caitlin had other jobs part time and is glad to have full time employment in a place where she has a chance to learn about banking. “In the next 5 years, I want to learn more about State National. I love it here and want to see how I can help other departments. It’s so exciting to get to talk to our branch offices in Lamesa and O’Donnell. We talk every day and figure out things together. It’s wonderful.“
Caitlin was presented a plaque for being the employee of the Year. “I’ve got it on a stand on my desk so everybody can see it. It motivates me to keep going.”
