The inspirational message from my show this morning . . .

"Somebody's gotta win, somebody's gotta lose. Just don't fight about it. Just try to get better."

Willie Mays . . . widely regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. He was a mentor for aspiring youth, often playing stickball in the streets of Harlem with the kids, then buying them ice cream before heading off to a game at the Polo Grounds.

Sadly, Willie passed away just last month at the age of 93.

State House Bills 1976 & 2045 will take local municipalities’ ability to zone office, commercial & single family home properties away from them and into the hands of developers. A solution for alleviating the affordable housing shortage, or a power grab causing chaos in local land use planning?!

On Tuesday, State Representative Josh Siegel will explain & defend his proposed legislation. You won’t want to miss this one!

If you have some time to invest in hearing an incredible story of survival and strength, this is the show for you. A Jewish family who survived the Holocaust against all odds. The father Laci who was liberated from Auschwitz, while the mother Olga and daughter Evitchka were sheltered by a Catholic couple at risk of their own lives. They were reunited at a train station after the war; Laci not immediately recognized because he only weighed 78 lbs.

The entire story is captured in "Evitchka", co-authored by Dr. Larry Levitt and Stephanie Smartschan, and available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. You'll find this to be a very personal, enlightening, inspiring and triumphant story, as I did!

Brad connects listeners with community leaders, elected officials, authors, historians, and other experts in fields such as arts & entertainment, financial planning, non-profits, economics, sports, and wellness.

Quote to close the compelling show yesterday from Imre Kertesz, Hungarian author and Holocaust Survivor . . .

"One must understand that the horror was not in Auschwitz, but in the existence of Auschwitz."

Pictured is a crematory furnace where the corpses of Jews who were gassed to their deaths were then burned to ashes, dumped in the Sola and Vistula rivers, or in nearby ponds, or strewn in the fields as fertilizer, or used as landfill on uneven ground and marshes. Impossible to fathom the depravity of the Nazis’ actions.

Picture from my visit to Auschwitz (Oswiecim) on March 12, 2019:

A demeaning entrance to the concentration and extermination camp where over 1 million Jewish men, women and children lost their lives. You can't see it in this picture because the gate is in the way, but the "b" in "Arbeit Macht Frei" (translation . . . "Work makes you free"), was purposely reversed in the metalworking labor detail as a camouflaged mark of disobedience!

Before WWII, there were 200 Jewish children in the small town of Humenne, Czechoslovakia. After the war, there were 6. Evitcha was one of them.

Join me this Tuesday, June 18 to learn about her incredible and inspiring story, and the raw power of human resilience.

Listen to my conversation with T.J. Rooney, one of the most influential and respected figures in PA politics in the last 30 years. In the second half-hour, Mr. Rooney shares his view on the potential sale of U.S. Steel to Japan-based Nippon Steel and responds to some probing questions!

Brad connects listeners with community leaders, elected officials, authors, historians, and other experts in fields such as arts & entertainment, financial planning, non-profits, economics, sports, and wellness.

Closing thoughts from my show yesterday concerning bipartisanship in government . . .

John F. Kennedy . . . "Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer."

Tip O'Neil . . . "You can disagree without being disagreeable."

Lyndon B. Johnson . . . "There are no problems we cannot solve together, and very few that we can solve by ourselves."

Newt Gringrich . . . "We're at our best when we work together, when we come together and find common ground."

But the one I like the best is from Dwight D. Eisenhower . . .

"People talk about the middle of the road as though it were unacceptable. Actually, all human problems, excepting morals, come into gray areas. Things are not all black and white. There have to be compromises. The middle of the road is all of the usable surface. The extremes, right and left, are in the gutters."

What do you think??

06/09/2024

With over 25 years experience in business and government, former PA State Representative and Democratic Party Chair, T.J. Rooney joins me this Tuesday to discuss the pending sale of U.S. Steel to Japan-based Nippon Steel, and much more!

Fascinating interview with Dr. James Higgins, professor of history at Rider University who specializes in the history of medicine. We covered a lot of ground, including medical practices in the 1700's that included bloodletting and leeches!! He also authored "The Health of the Commonwealth", a compelling read as Pennsylvania was at the "heart" of medicine in the colonial days!

Did you know that disease at Valley Forge killed far more Continental soldiers than the battles of Germantown and Brandywine combined, and that Washington's troops were far better off than their British counterparts in the face of smallpox because of his orders to inoculate new soldiers??!

Closing thought from my show this morning . . .

"The final lesson of 1918, a simple one, yet one most difficult to execute, is that those who are in authority must retain the public's trust. The way to do that is to distort nothing, to put the best face on nothing, to try to manipulate no one."

John Barry, American author and historian in his book "The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History"

06/02/2024

Dr. James Higgins, history professor at Rider University, will be joining me this Tuesday to share his expertise in the history of medical practices, medicine and influenza in Northern American and European cities, including the recent worldwide COVID-19 pandemic!

Memorial Day was yesterday, but this was the first chance I had on my show this morning to publicly offer my thoughts to those who have lost a loved one in service to our country . . . for them, Memorial Day is EVERY day.

For the families of fallen loved ones, from the first American casualty of World War II on August 20, 1937, through the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, I share this quote from Harry S. Truman, our 33rd President, whose words still ring true today . . .

"Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service to our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices."
