"What struck me at every Press Pause Now retreat was the way women came together in support of one another. Backgrounds, professions, interests had less to do with it than their desire to help each other achieve success. One day it came to me - the power of press pause was in the stories women shared with each other about their individual goals and dreams, challenges and obstacles, successes and achievements. Storytelling was the key to hitting "play" and moving forward with a strong belief in oneself and one's purpose. No matter what the story was, no matter who was telling it, those present could relate and benefit from it." From the Introduction of "Press Pause Moments: Essays about Life Transitions by Women Writers." HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY. (P.S. Please message me if interested in copies of book)

Having a strong voice is not just the way it sounds...it's the words it speaks, the audience it speaks to and the way we use it to reflect who we are, our ideas, our dreams, our goals.

There’s a scientific explanation.

During the last year, I've pressed pause on a regular basis to think about what I can let go to lighten the load for moving on. This is a quick fun article. I've lived the intro and it was a huge de-stresser. I've made tremendous progress on #1 and #2. I'm not sure I understand #3 and #4, which is probably a good thing. And #5? Emojis still don't do it for me. How do you do against this list?

Let it go.

It's so important for me to press pause during the day to take a break and take care of me. It's not always easy to get everything done and attend to me. It takes good time management and setting priorities. A big deal is getting to the pool 3-4 times a week. What priority have you made to take care of you despite a busy life?

04/27/2018

While I'm a planner and a strategist, I also rely a lot on self-awareness and simple gut responses. This has helped with adjusting my vision and long-term goals that come with life transitions. I've found in midlife I'm doing a lot of introspective thinking and, for a long time, it felt like a lot of disparate pieces were hanging out there. I'm starting to see them come together and meld into each other, like how individual water droplets come together and connect. If you're patient, take time to honestly assess what's most important to you and start painting small scenes on the canvas, a big picture starts coming together.

I operate my life in a similar fashion to how a company operates. Some people find that odd, but it makes perfect sense to me. There's a "business" to being me that's authentic. And, just like for a business, I know that if I don't manage my life, it will manage me in ways I may not want. That's why I'm right now finishing up my first quarter review. I look at my annual plan - what are my goals this year? Then I assess how I've done during the first quarter - what's on track, have priorities shifted, etc. Do you have a way you manage your life that works?

12/30/2017

This time of year, I update my operating plan. A company would not rely on resolutions to meet its goals, and neither do I. An operating plan assures accountability to achieving short and long term goals, a core strategy, and an understanding that the plan will need to be revisited and revised in response to change. The business of me is a priority I take seriously.

Year end. For companies and businesses, this part of the planning cycle involves looking at the next year and what needs to get accomplished toward the company goals and vision. Do you have a clear picture of your vision and three-year outlook? Do you know your top priorities in the coming year to accomplish those goals? This is your time to Press Pause Now to ensure you're working toward the life you want to lead.

My niece says it's hard to take a good swimming picture, and the one below suggests she's right! However, I wanted to share this photo of me, swimming the sidestroke, to show why it's important to invest time into articulating clearly a personal vision statement as part of your life operating plan. Mine includes the words, "maintaining my own health and wellness" and how I've done that has changed with each decade. Swimming and walking are perfect for me now. It took me a while to let go of my earlier Type-A notion of what those words meant, and now I appreciate both of these activities for how they keep me strong, flexible, and in balance. My motto for health and wellness is now "move your body, move your spirit, move your mind." Are your moves in synch with your personal vision and life's operating plan?

Are you wondering what's ahead in your life? Have your someday dreams sat on the back burner so long you're not sure if it's time to get them going again? Or have they changed? Are there new dreams for this new phase of your life?

Ever have one of those days when you wish the pause button was really close by?

05/29/2017

Remember, we navigate tumultuous times by taking charge of our own ship. That means seriously looking at our own situations, and understanding where we want to get to in the next three years. It's great to have a vision, but when we can't control what is externally going on around us we need to focus on what we can manage. That's what the Press Pause Now approach is all about.
