A Clear Choice for Bessemer's Future: Teco Stephens for City Council District 5

As Bessemer stands at a crucial crossroads, the upcoming January 14th City Council election represents more than just a vote – it's an investment in our community's future. For District 5, one candidate stands out as uniquely qualified to lead: Teco Stephens.

"I'm not just running for office, I'm investing in the community where I live, work, and raise my family," says Stephens. As an Ambassador of the Bessemer Chamber of Commerce and the owner of 3Way Cleaning Company, he's already proven his dedication to local economic growth and development by creating jobs and opportunities for Bessemer residents.

But Stephens' impact extends far beyond business. His leadership as former President of the Bessemer City Rotary Club and his active involvement in youth sports at the Bessemer Legacy Y demonstrate a leader who understands that strong communities are built through service and engagement. Whether he's sponsoring or coaching basketball, soccer, or flag football, Stephens shows up for Bessemer's youth, helping shape the next generation of community leaders.

His experience as a member of The Visioning Committee on the City of Bessemer’s VISION 2040 Framework has equipped Teco with unique insights into what Bessemer needs to thrive and attract businesses, creating opportunities for growth. His platform focuses on practical, achievable goals: cleaner streets, safer neighborhoods, stronger community engagement, and economic development—priorities that directly impact District 5 families.

The January 14th election isn't just another date on the calendar. It's an opportunity to elect a leader who combines business astuteness with genuine community commitment. Through his actions, Stephens has shown that he understands the challenges facing our district and has the experience to address them effectively.

For District 5 residents who want a councilor who will work tirelessly for their interests, the choice is clear. Vote Teco Stephens on January 14th – because leadership that truly invests in our community is leadership worth supporting.

Don't let this critical opportunity pass. Let's elect a leader who doesn't just promise change but has already proven his commitment to making Bessemer better. Vote Teco Stephens for District 5 City Council.

Sincerely,
-The Committee To Elect Teco Stephens For City Council

I am Dr. LaKeshya George-Russ, a life-long resident of the city of Bessemer, community servant, and continued servant leader to our youth through education for the past 33 years. As we have canvased our community, the question has arisen around my motivation in choosing to run for the District 5 City Council position. Throughout my life I have always been inspired by many Americans who have come before me making historical strides both within and outside of politics. As I reflect on the quote, “The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example.” —Benjamin Disraeli, I am reminded of two great women within my own family who paved the way by highlighting the importance of dedication and service right in their own community. My cousin, the late Mrs. Olivia Perkins-Walker, and mother, Ms. Darlene Perkins both who served their community in various capacities prior to their departure from their positions. Olivia was elected in District 5 as the first woman to sit on the Bessemer City Council where she had the chance to impact the lives of many through policy implementations that included safer communities and enhanced economic developments that brought additional jobs to the city. My mother, Darlene, was elected to the Bessemer Board of Education as the first woman to hold the District 5 seat. During her tenure, the board saw many improvements that included but not limited to a new high school facility.

Over the past 30 years, you all have entrusted me to lead and educate one of the most vulnerable groups in our population and for the past 12 years creating economic impact and mobility through the reestablishment of the city’s Summer Program. I’m asking you to put the same faith in me to lead our district and city into a new future. This includes enhanced safety measures for all communities, an economic structure that attracts and retain businesses that meet the needs and desires of all citizens, and financial transparency and accountability.

We need your support on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 to continue this great legacy and empower the voice that will enrich the community!
