Meet Marissa Pedersen, author of our brand-new Moon Washington State guidebook!

“While writing Moon Washington, I got to explore some of the most stunning landscapes in the state. One of my favorite experiences this fall was venturing into the stunning Mount Baker region. I explored vibrant trails surrounded by autumn colors and snow-capped peaks while checking out some new hikes.” 🥾

Moon author Andrew Hempstead is back with a brand-new edition of Moon Newfoundland & Labrador! 🇨🇦

"For rugged landscapes, interesting human history, and wonderful people I've always regarded Newfoundland and Labrador as one of the most special places to visit in Canada. Having grown up on the ocean, I'm drawn to the wild and rugged coastlines, especially out-of-the-way places such as the tiny islands along the north coast of Newfoundland, the west coast of the Northern Peninsula, and the Labrador Straits.

On my research trip for this new edition of Moon Newfoundland & Labrador, I returned to the invigorating Shamrock Festival at Ferryland, spent hours laying in the grass at Elliston viewing puffins, hiked to the summit of Gros Morne Mountain, and drove up the Trans-Labrador Highway to Happy Valley-Goose Bay. These experiences in Newfoundland and Labrador are part of my work as a writer, but also contribute to my love of the region, which I hope comes through in the new edition of Moon Newfoundland & Labrador."

👋 Meet Moon New England Hiking coauthor Miles Howard!

"As a native New Englander, I'm a romantic when it comes to seasons. In this corner of the world, the natural landscape and the towns and cities transform every few months.

A wildflowering field that I might have sauntered across in midsummer eventually transforms into a snowbound expanse so quiet that I can practically hear my own heart beat. A mountaintop that's reliably covered in mud each April yields one of the finest panoramic vistas during the height of fall foliage season.

And of course, when it's time to put away the hiking poles and head into town for a celebratory dinner, the local brewpub is reliably whipping up something that pairs with the elements outside; be it a sunny Kolsch or an obsidian imperial stout."

"Moon Guides are written by local authors like me, who walk these cobblestone streets, dine in these restaurants, and explore and enjoy exactly what we are promoting.

While writing the second edition of Moon Southern Italy, I was able to finesse my tried-and-true recommendations and include brand new listings to keep the guide fresh and up to date. The carefully planned itinerary suggestions break down a few days to focus in on a specific area, giving you time to settle into the Italian rhythm and really enjoy the greatest hits.

This guidebook covers a large range of destinations that can easily be paired together for an extended trip.

Moon Southern Italy is filled with everything from our top beaches, architectural masterpieces to breathtaking churches and cathedrals, tips on navigating charming villages or bustling city centers, and trekking around volcanoes or Italy's off-the-radar minor islands, and touring the outdoor markets with culinary experts by your side."

"I loved reading and writing from a very early age, but it was never meant to be my career path — until somebody asked me what I'd be doing with my math degree, and the words "Nothing. I'm going to be a writer," fell out of my mouth. People kept asking, I kept giving the same answer that surprised everybody (even me), and eventually I decided I'd better put up or shut up.

It's now been a solid 20 years since my first writing job, penning a hiking column for a local newspaper. Although I travel extensively throughout Alaska for leisure and (writing) work, the unmatched beauty and wildness of outdoor Alaska — especially once you leave the cities behind — remains the magnet that draws me ever onward. Whether you're looking for mild or wild adventures, sharing the excitement of traveling through Alaska, and through its great natural beauty, remains one of my favorite things on this planet.”

"No matter how many times I visit Scotland, I never tire of it. Whether soaking up the atmosphere of its vibrant cities, nature-spotting on its coastlines, walking its hills and valleys, or swimming in its lochs, there is always something new to discover and I honestly don't think there's anywhere else like it.

Researching travel guidebooks can be a mighty task, but amid every busy itinerary, I always try to find some quiet, reflective moments to appreciate just how lucky I am to call this work."

Meet Moon Ecuador & the Galápagos Islands author Bethany Pitts! Her book hits shelves today: https://bit.ly/46U3OtL

“For me, Ecuador is an enchanted land, encompassing snow-capped volcanoes, wildflower-strewn moorlands, misty cloud forests, pristine Amazon rainforest and deserted beaches - all in an area roughly the size of Colorado. Fourteen indigenous nationalities live within these astonishingly varied landscapes, which I have been exploring for the last 15 years.

It was a joy and a privilege to spend a year travelling the country once again in 2023 while investigating for the 8th edition of Moon Ecuador & the Galápagos Islands. I wrote the book with a focus on ethical travel, highlighting options where the income from visitors directly helps to conserve the natural environment, support local communities and preserve ancestral traditions. I hope the book will help readers fall in love with the magic of Ecuador as I did!”

⚾ Meet Moon Baseball Road Trips author Timothy Malcolm! The new edition of his guide is out this week: https://bit.ly/3ALhoDK

"I’ve had some incredible experiences while researching the many destinations included in Baseball Road Trips, whose first edition was published in 2021. For example, after a ballgame at Chicago’s famous Wrigley Field, I introduced myself to fans at a nearby Wrigleyville bar. 'Oh my gosh!' said one of the fans. 'I have your book!' I then proceeded to autograph his t-shirt.

Baseball fans across the world dream of visiting every major league ballpark, and for many, Baseball Road Trips is the bible that accompanies them on their journeys. So I take the job seriously, running around parks before and during games to document everything necessary, talking to as many fans as possible for recommendations and opinions, and crawling around destinations to ensure I’m capturing what’s most imporatnt about a place, and what other travelers will love most about it."

Meet Moon Utah author Maya Silver!

“Right place, right time. In the case of Arches National Park, it turns out the right time is 1:30am, which is when this photo of me was taken. This past year, my book research took me again to the Utah desert, where I went on a midnight “galactic core tour” of Arches. Just me and a guide ventured into the Windows section of the park for views of the star-filled core of the Milky Way framed by sandstone arches.

My philosophy when it comes to writing my Moon Utah travel guide is to empower visitors to find their “right place, right time,” whether that’s getting off the beaten path or finding the perfect window to experience a popular destination minus the Disneyland vibes.”

👋 Meet Moon Northern California Hiking co-author Felicia Leo Kemp!

"Every day I express to my children how thankful we should be for the beauty all around us in Northern California. People travel the world over to see the natural wonders we spend our weekends exploring: towering redwoods, the rugged coastline, crystal blue lakes, majestic peaks, countless waterfalls, and wildflower blooms.

While researching for Northern California Hiking, I plunged my feet into the sands of Pfeiffer Beach at sunset. Through a short forest walk from the parking area, it’s a great place to sit back and just take it all in after a day of hiking in Big Sur."

“I am a Greek American based in Palermo and two-time Moon Guides author specializing in culinary-focused travel in Sicily.

I especially love exploring the minor islands of the region, learning about their history and shining a light on the hidden gems and harder-to-reach vacation spots that too often get overlooked.

Sicily is an Italian destination for year-round travel; from the gamut of sand, rock, pebble and volcanic beaches for summer trips, through autumn’s harvest season when grapes and olives are carefully collected, to visiting palaces, churches, and archaeological parks that seem to be open just for you in wintertime, and the reawakening in spring when the island is bursting with wildflowers.

I’m excited to share more in the first edition of Moon Sicily.”
