Candidates Sophie Hahn, Kate Harrison and Adena Ishii will have the opportunity to showcase their responses to questions from both CalTV News and the Daily Californian. Recordings will be posted for those who cannot attend live.

This past May, Mount Kimbie kicked off their first North American Tour at the Great American Music Hall in San Fransisco. The sign above the venue read “sold out,” a nod to the small but dedicated fanbase they have amassed over the band’s career that spans over 15 years.

The tour promised to introduce a “new and invigorated” Mount Kimbie for this headline in light of adding two new band members, and with new music from their brand-new fourth album “The Sunset Violet.”

It was a night of electronic music that reverberated throughout the whole concert hall. The opener, the band Chanel Beads, readied the crowd with a screamy but ethereal sound bolstered by an electric violin. When Mount Kimbie entered the stage, their presence commanded the room. Highly technical, they hardly interacted with the crowd—laser-focused on syncing their numerous instruments and layered vocal harmonies. The pillars and old school, velvety feel of the concert hall mixed with lights shining through hazy cigarette smoke added to the atmosphere of the room; the audience was entranced. Nearly everyone knew all of the lyrics. It felt like the crowd was holding their breath and letting it out at the same time. Many in the crowd had been waiting for this moment for over a decade, and they weren’t disappointed.
