Local Resident Scammed-
Find out how Third Federal Bank responded to a local resident who was caught in an email scam.
To protect yourself from being scammed-
1) Never send cash or gift cards through the mail.
2) You never have to pay taxes to claim your ‘winnings’ or ‘settlement’.
3) Checks, even casher’s checks can take weeks to process by the bank. Just because the money is in your account doesn’t mean the check was a good check.
4) If it is an emergency with family members, make sure it’s them and confirm with other family members. Scammers will ask you to send money using Western Union because your grandchild is in jail or for some other made-up reason.
5) If you are asked or told not to talk to family or friends, IT IS A SCAM- talk to your family and friends. Rule of thumb, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Talk with a trusted advisor, family member, or friend to make sure someone does not take advantage of you.

Scams can have long-term impacts. Local Bank blacklists and closes accounts of client who fell victim to a lotto scam.

PLEASE HELP US IN OUR CAMPAIGN FOR GOOD GOVERNMENT- SHARE AND LIKE THIS POST!

Berea News stands for good government and clean campaigns. When mayor Kleem decided to launch a misinformation campaign against the candidates who signed Berea’s Good Government Pledge, we fought back… AND WON!

It is time that politicians on the left and the right pay a price for dirty campaigns. Lies and deceit only work to divide us and make our politics more toxic.

We pledge to fight lies, disinformation, and dishonestly no matter the source. We will defend any candidate who takes and honors the “Berea Good Government Pledge”. It does not matter the candidate's party or political viewpoint we will have your back.
Read how we exposed mayor Kleem’s disinformation campaign.

Below is the pledge we asked all the candidates to take. You can learn more on our website.

BEREA'S GOOD GOVERNMENT PLEDGE

I, a candidate for Berea City Government, will serve the Berea Community and commit to the following Values:

LOYALTY
Bear true faith and allegiance to the founding principles of our country that all are created equal.

Support the City of Berea and stand up for all Bereans.

DUTY
Fulfill my obligations to Berea by actively participating in the legislative process and staying informed on all pending and proposed legislation.

Endeavor to listen to and keep my constituents engaged and informed of actions taken by the City of Berea.

RESPECT
Promote the City of Berea and look after all its citizens without regard to race, religion, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
Listen and treat with respect those who do not agree with my points of view.

ACCOUNTABILITY
Take ownership of mistakes made.
Be open and honest in all official duties.

INTEGRITY
Deal fairly and honestly with the community when acting in my official capacity or when campaigning for any office in Berea.

Refrain from spreading falsehoods about my opponent or mischaracterizing their positions.

Never use my official office or city resources for personal or political gain.

Mary Brown, Erika Coble, and Daune Jaynes signed this pledge.
