es: from dealing with child behavioral issues to balancing family and work life. There is no such thing as the perfect parent, but that doesn't mean we have to stop learning how to keep family life balanced. There are always ways we can strengthen our relationship with our children. This consultancy offers informative parenting tools backed by research and based on Dr. Ari Novick's program. This is not a therapy group, but rather an educational opportunity to learn more about ways to maintain harmony with your children and spouse. Stress management techniques are also a part of the workshop.

Robyn Gobbel - Trauma, Toxic Stress, & Baffling Behaviors šŸ’•
ā€¢
It's perfectly human to want someone else's distressing behavior to stop because it makes us uncomfortable (and sometimes it's dangerous).
Believe me, I feel deeply the pull to manipulate someone else's nervous system so I'll feel more comfortable.

I do it more than I'd like to admit publicly here on social media šŸ˜œ You can ask my husband.
But that's not real co-regulation.

Co-regulation has no agenda besides "I'm here with you. I can hold this distress as long as it needed."

I'm definitely not throwing shade (um, my BFF's young daughter recently introduced me to this lingo. Is it hip?? I'm old and never leave the house so I'm outta touch with the lingo...)

Anyway I'm definitely not throwing shade at all the times we are offering co-regulation as an attempt to change someone else.

Like I said. I get it. I do it, too.

We can allow our humanity to be completely wonderfully true AND see if we can increase our noticing and our awareness of when we being present versus when we are trying to get someone else to change.

Time-out is a popular discipline method aimed at getting children to sit in a chair and ā€œthink about what they've done,ā€ which would work great if children were actually sitting in the chair pondering their behavior. Here are 3 effective alternatives to this parenting method.

Since hearing this quote I havenā€™t been able to shake it. As preschool teachers we encounter angry kids but if we approach their anger as a bodyguard for sadness it helps ease our response. There is little urge to punish a sad child but the desire to punish an angry one is quick to surface. If we can reframe it we can hopefully better help the child work through the emotions and find a constructive solution without responding in anger ourselves.
