The line of storms expected to move through our area this afternoon may produce large (2-inch diameter) hail and strong winds, with the chance for a pop-up tornado. Please , particularly for this evening's commute.

8:20 AM UPDATE: Hwy 161 in Bessemer City has reopened to traffic.

7 AM UPDATE: Crews continue to make good progress on containing the fire. Local TV stations were briefed by the Bessemer City Manager, Josh Ross, and County Communications Director Adam Gaub. Emergency Management officials are relaying to the public that the smoke from the fire is not toxic.

Multiple agencies working a three-alarm blaze this morning at the Livent plant in Bessemer City. There are no reported injuries and no evacuation orders at this time. Power Outage / Traffic Signals Out

(US 74) Wilkinson Blvd / Park Street

Traffic signals on Park Street are currently out as well as all traffic signals on Wilkinson Blvd from Hawley Ave (WalMart) to the Catawba River. This outage was caused by a tree falling on power lines on Pearl Beatty Road in Mount Holly. Crews are currently working to restore power.

Skylar Butcher was reported missing this morning from his home near Southfork Drive in Belmont. Skylar is believed to have left the home on a green bicycle.
