I had the pleasure of designing and printing this project for the transnational record label, , which was produced in bilingual Spanish and English text, and includes a CD that slips into the jacket.

“In contemporary northeastern Mexico, it is known with certainty that the “picota” or “música de tambora” has been played since at least 1880. Although this makes it the oldest musical expression known from the region, few remnants have been found that reveal precise clues about its origin.” -Rene Velarde (translated and abridged from their essay)

The CD collects a series of field recordings of this rarely heard Mexican folk music, captured on tape in 1990, and collected here with a series of essays exploring the past and speculative futures of the music.

The original tapes were recorded by Raul Garcia Flores, and decades later landed in the hands of Transitory Tapes co-founder and experimental musician Patricio Coronado, who took creative liberties in mastering them. His essay, “Notes on Post-Production” closes the publication and exposes his process and connections with the music.

Special thanks to .mty and for their part in making this project possible.

While in NYC I had a chance to see the latest show from one of my favorite artists! Kari Cholnoky’s “Horizontal Loader” features a bunch of her latest mutant creations that have been born somewhere between painting and sculpture. I’m posting a mix of detail and installation views here, but if you find yourself in NYC, best to go and see for yourself. The exhibition is currently on view through January 13th via 🤩

NYC! I’m here for the next couple days, exhibiting at

The last time I visited NY was in 2019, in a quartet of cross-country travel that seemed likely to wash me up on the East coast… but it would seem the pandemic had other plans for me.

It’s amazing to visit again, and to find recognition and friendship in this magical and complicated city at the heart of the monster that is America. I’m hyped to connect with new people and show all the books made since my last visit! Huge shoutout to of for hosting my adventure, and publishing some beautiful stuff on the other side of the turtle.

Sounding for Harry Smith by Bret Lunsford is being distributed through , published by Lunsford’s own imprint,

This book takes the subject of polymath artist, archivist, and cult figure, Harry Everett Smith, at it’s center, and uncovers a history of Bellingham and Anacortes, where Smith spent his early years. Smith lived in an Anacortes cannery, amidst a community of eccentric settlers, and frequently arranged meetings with the neighboring Lummi and Nooksack tribes to document some of their songs and stories, and collect cultural artifacts, which were collected and assembled in a museum-like display within the defunct cannery warehouse of Smith’s family.

Fastidiously researched by author Bret Lunsford, who some may recognize from his days in the band or from his time operating , this is likely the most exhaustive history that will ever be written of Harry Everett Smith, and this book becomes as much a regional history as a biography of its central figure.

2023 would have been Harry Smith’s 100th birthday, and the is currently presenting the first ever career retrospective of his work, including many public performances, since it’s opening on October 4th.

For the second year in a row had it’s own daily newspaper, the Sh’Daily Chronicle, featuring self-mythologizing news and reviews from the previous day’s happenings, along with games, drawings, calls-to-action, an open-submission gossip column, and the schedule for the day ahead! 💥📰💥

The editorial staff consisted of and Belle (are you on Instagram?), along with artistic contributions from .fruit 🖤

Each day the paper was written, edited, and manually pasted up, then printed with various inks on a Risograph GR-3770 duplicator and distributed throughout the festival!

The newspaper was once again a resounding favorite of the festival and rumors around the water coolers suggest that the editors are already planning to bring it back in 2024!

My much-belated thanks to the for their invitation to create the installation for their first year festival!

Po-Mo Pulp is a series of zines published by Neoglyphic Media, exhibited alongside conceptually-related original work, intended to expand the context of the publications. The visionary nature of the artists involved grinds against the subversive voice of the underground and begs for further exploration along the line of where low-brow or pulp media crosses over into fine art.

The exhibition featured artists: Amanda Vähämäki (Finland), Lale Westvind (Philadelphia, PA), Drew Miller (Albuquerque, NM), Leomi Sadler (London, England, UK), Marc Bell (Vancouver, BC, Canada), Matt Lock (Clifton, NJ), Stefan Gruber (Seattle, WA)

"Miles of Slime and Smiles" collects the entirety of Joe Grillo's sketchbook by the same name, worked in between June-October 2003, during the hight of the legendary underground newspaper, Paper Rodeo. The work in this sketchbook formed the basis for many of the full-page collages that Grillo would create for Paper Rodeo, using a process of photocopying sketchbook pages and collaging to recombine their elements into new compositions.

All of the full-page pieces that Grillo contributed to Paper Rodeo are reprinted here in an addended section, along with adjacent multimedia collage work drawn from the same source material.

“Pixie Lice” by Amanda Vähämäki ( ) is available from better bookstores, and online from

A modern folktale of trolls and fae creatures, spun from the pen of masterful Finnish cartoonist, Amanda Vähämäki. Though she has remained quietly and continually active in her home country, Pixie Lice is her first work for an English audience since the 2007 publication of The Bun Field by Drawn & Quarterly.

“Amanda Vähämäki may be my favorite artist. I love to be in the worlds she makes. I feel like a guest there, but it feels like a dream of an unknown new home. All the corners are round and the ground is wet with rain and mushrooms. The big world mists and blows around outside but life unfolds in a small heated room with mysteries gently passing through.” — Phil Elverum (The Microphones, Mount Eerie) ( )

“It feels good to move through these pages of youthful/magic/discovery-laden enchantment that a rare artist like [Vähämäki] or Sendak is wildly skilled at capturing. Her line cannot be beat. Her figure is so alive, hair for hair, line for line.” — Sean Christensen ( )

20 pages, full color offset and saddle-stapled pamphlet, 8.25” x 10.5”, edition of 1000

Thanks to for premiering this book in the USA, and to and for bringing Amanda with collective, and hosting an exhibition of the original artwork during the Toronto Comic Arts Festival!
