Thank you to Karla Powell with Anxious for Nothing for joining me on the Chamber Vibes Podcast this week! 💚💙

This was one of my favorite episodes yet! Karla and I had an excellent conversation, and this short recap will certainly not do it justice. You need to listen for yourself!

In 2020, God sent Karla a dream telling her to give sandwiches to the low income and homeless individuals living in hotels in Roanoke. Obediently, Karla and her family bagged 40 PB&Js, drove out from their home in Bedford, and fed 40 people in 5 minutes. They continued doing this for several months until God sent Karla another dream telling her to go to the skate park. Obediently, they went to Falling Creek Park and began teaching kids, who had quite literally nothing else to do during the pandemic, how to skate. This was how Anxious for Nothing began to form.

Slowly but surely, people saw how Karla and her family were uplifting others through their love for Jesus, and they felt called to support them and be a part of what they were doing. Blue Ridge Community Church allowed them to set up a community center in the old Peebles building, and when LU closed their skate park, Karla purchased the skate equipment to use in their new space.

Now, Anxious for Nothing is a Jesus-centered nonprofit that strives to make sure that no one feels hopeless or alone; gives teens a fun, safe, and empowering place to grow; and fills gaps in our community through a variety of programs. One of these programs is Prayer & Pizza, an amazing free event for youth ages 10-17 that they hold every Friday.

Anxious for Nothing is entirely volunteer run, and their largest annual fundraiser is coming up soon! Set for October 5 at Liberty Lake Park, their Color Run is a 2-mile fun run that ends with the white-dressed runners splattered in paint. Sign up to run, be a sponsor, or volunteer! The funds go towards making Anxious for Nothing's annual 3-day camp free for all campers.
