With Murray out for the year and likely part of next season, the Pelicans’ backcourt depth takes another major hit. Now, Jose Alvarado and CJ McCollum will have to take over as playmakers, with Alvarado stepping into a much larger role as the team’s only true point guard

Pelicans fall to Raptors as frustrations boil over in tough road loss

The New Orleans Pelicans went winless on their Eastern Conference road trip, falling to 0-3 after another tough road loss Monday night. The Pelicans fell to the Toronto Raptors 113-104, getting swept in the season series for the first time since 2019-20. New Orleans couldn’t make a basket from deep, shooting just 6-of-28 from beyond the arc. The Pelicans fell to 0-10 when they failed to make at least 10 three-pointers in a game. They struggled to find any rhythm offensively, despite a stellar performance from Zion Williamson.

Murphy’s 30, Zion’s return not enough as Pelicans lose heartbreaker to Celtics

The New Orleans Pelicans played as well as anyone could have expected Sunday night, pushing the Boston Celtics to their limit before falling 120-119 in a nail-biter at TD Garden. CJ McCollum had a chance to play the hero in the final seconds after Boston committed a 5-second violation with 6.6 seconds left, but his floater clanged off the rim as time expired. Despite the loss, the Pelicans showcased flashes of what they could be with a healthy roster, spearheaded by Zion Williamson and Trey Murphy III.
