Gourmet pastas and desserts ready in minutes? Northshore-born Prima Après is making it happen and bringing the tasty magic here with its first Baton Rouge location 🍝✨
Operating like a topping-filled fro-yo shop, the Italian pasta and French pavlova eatery allows customers to dress up their treats with savory and sugary touches. Prima means “first” in Italian and après is “after” in French. The moniker suggests starting with the pasta and ending with the pavlova—a melt-in-your-mouth French meringue.

Lavi en Kouri-Vini. This translates to “life in Louisiana Creole” in Kouri-Vini, an endangered language sometimes heard today in pockets of south Louisiana 🗣️💬
Kouri-Vini dates back to the 1700s and 1800s, when enslaved West Africans were living on plantations in French territory spanning the southern half of the state. The language spread mostly by word of mouth. Today, somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 speakers remain.
In the newest episode of our YouTube series, Between the Lines, dive into Kouri-Vini and meet its advocates who hope the language makes a comeback. Find the video at the link in our bio. #225batonrouge
Baton Rouge has a new option for Mexican food with a twist. The Patio Tex-Mex Fusion opened last month in the space formerly home to the Velvet Cactus with international flavor combinations and trendy decor that sets the mood for a night out or an elevated weekday lunch break 🌿🌮🍹
The Patio comes from the Magnolia Restaurant Group, which also owns and operates Geisha, Sushi With a Flair and Umami Japanese Bistro. The menu is full of Tex-Mex restaurant staples like cheese-smothered enchiladas, sizzling fajitas, deep-fried chimichangas and sugary flan. Asian influences are also in the lineup. The Tuna Tostadas use sashimi-grade tuna and housemade gochujang aioli; the Lettuce Wrap Tacos feature ground beef, Thai basil and Thai seasoning.
Here’s a sneak peek inside The Patio and its menu. Take a closer look at the link in our bio. #225batonrouge

Round the corner on Fairchild Street, and there it is: a crimson-and-white building that’s been open for decades. The sign over the door reads Ethel’s Snack Shack 🍗🫘🍤
Here, “snack” is code for soul food. And these days, that means smothered chicken and cornbread dressing on Mondays, and smoked baby back ribs and seafood-stuffed potatoes on Fridays. Red beans and rice, an Ethel’s mainstay, are on the menu daily, while pig tails, chitterlings and other vestiges of the soul food canon—catnip for diehards—make occasional appearances. Last month, Ethel’s was named the 2024 Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival Soul Food Pioneer. It will be honored during the festival next weekend.
Tap the link in our bio to learn what Soul Food Festival founder Henry Turner Jr. has to say about his pioneer pick—and about the history of soul food. #225batonrouge
⌚: The Soul Food Festival runs May 18-19 at the East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library at Goodwood.
