I am not the same person I was three years ago. Not by a long shot. Ever since psilocybin mushrooms jolted me out of severe depression, I have thrust myself into the ever expanding world of self awareness and improvement...

In my book I discuss the pilot study done by Johns Hopkins and also the follow up Phase II clinical trial as well. Looks like out of the 80 patients involved in the clinical trial, 59% of the 44 that have made it to the 12 month mark have remained abstinent from smoking. Like Dr. Johnson points out in the article, those numbers are impressive in comparison to current non-smoking/treatment regimes. It will be interesting to see if the percentage goes up as the 36 other participants finish the trial. Lastly, as I suspected, COVID is going to slow the progress of most if not all Phase II trials currently underway. Anyone have thoughts on this? Much Love!!!

Comments from Matthew Johnson of Johns Hopkins provide an update on this research.

Well here we go!!! Glad that Rep. Harris decided to back off of his tirade....for now at least. I have a feeling that this issue will return. I do see where Rep. Harris at least acknowledges that psilocybin does have legitimate medical use. However, there is tons of evidence, at least anecdotal, that supports the idea that the other plant-based entheogens are also very effective for healing. At the end of the day, regardless of scientific evidence of healing, the substances are generally safe for consumption. To my knowledge, the other substances listed have either a 0 or very very low body count. This fact must be remembered and hammered home. Why are people like Rep. Harris continuing to support outdated and draconian laws that outlaw substances that come from nature and are safer than 99% of the medicines that can be bought over the counter? Thoughts?

I am becoming a fan of DoubleBlind magazine. However, the slang terms/lingo has got to go. Every time I hear the word "shrooms" I can't help but get the imagine of some horribly misinformed teenager using the term to tell his/her friend how hard they are going to trip....or something to that effect. Seriously, something as simple as changing the terminology makes a huge difference in how people perceive something. Otherwise, I think this is a fairly well written and straight forward article. Thoughts?

It’s been almost 50 years since shrooms were banned internationally, but recent developments suggest the decline of prohibition. Read on at DoubleBlind.

Like I say in my book, we are fighting over 50 years of terrible social conditioning here ladies and gentlemen. Even those at the highest level of government are not immune to being complete social constructs. It's funny because while he is calling these substances "dangerous," there are FDA and DEA sponsored Phase II clinical trials being conducted examining the efficacy of psilocybin as a treatment for major depressive disorder and treatment resistant depression. Just so you know, a substance doesn't make it to a Phase II trials unless initial efficacy and safety is demonstrated in a smaller population during Phase I. Modern studies, post 2011, have administered psilocybin to over 300-500 individuals with no major adverse events recorded. So for this guy to call these substances dangerous is a gross misrepresentation of the facts. Again, social conditioning and pharmaceutical campaign donations are fueling this tyrant, not logic, not science, and damn sure not the best interests of the huge segment of Americans suffering from mental health issues. I am going to look into creating a task force that will work to try and get this man voted out of his seat next election. Moreover, the psychedelic community needs to look into creating a global lobbying fund to fight imbeciles like this!!! I hope good prevails here!!!! Much Love!!!!!

I was doing some research for the last chapter of my book today and found this out. So this makes both Oakland and Santa Cruz to decriminalize psilocybin. I also found out that there is a petition going around the whole State of California now to make them legal statewide. Anyone have thoughts on this? Seems like this is moving pretty quick. Much love!

The FDA has now granted "breakthrough" status therapy for two separate clinical trials involving psilocybin depression therapy. These status designations were granted to both the Usona Institue and Compass Pathways. Essentially, breathrough status means the FDA will work closely with the trial sponsor in helping get the therapies ultimate FDA approval. What is everyone's thoughts on this?

The FDA is helping to speed up the process of developing and approving a drug based on psilocybin, a hallucinogenic substance in magic mushrooms, to treat depression.
