October Nights Press will be appearing this weekend at LOUISIANA RETRO CON WINTER 2025!

I got my start doing shows in January 2023 and the first one was Louisiana Retro Con. It feels good to continue this tradition.

Can’t wait to see everyone at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center on what should be a beautiful weekend.

First con of the season done and it was a success! Peli Con was a great time and I was able to reconnect with vendor friends, meet new readers, and, one of my personal favorites, see repeat customers!

Congratulations to Cory Daigrepont, Corey Bardsley, and their families and staff for a well-ran and fun event!

Some cool, random bits of the universe: I saw a vendor named Night of the Chihuahuas and thought “yeah these folks are my people.” Turns out one of them, David Quiroz, is a friend and collaborator with David Hayes! What a small world. Also, due to an introduction by Roland Paris, I had an impromptu caricature drawn on the spot by Keith Cartoonman Douglas!

If this is how the season started, then 2025 is looking super bright!

Next Appearance: Louisiana Retro Con

I was so happy to join Jamie Ray this morning on Fave Five From Fans Podcast to discuss our favorite horror movies of 2024!

2024 was an incredible year for horror, and it was impossibly hard to narrow down a list to just five. Jamie gifted me 5 honorable mentions to make up for it and of course we had to discuss other movies that maybe didn’t make the list but were worthy of mention.

Check it out here and let know what your favorite horror movies of 2024 were!

We are one month away from accepting stories for “Myths Reborn: Modern Tales of Cryptids & Dark Folklore,” a new anthology by October Nights Press.

While we appreciate a good ole fashioned legend as much as anyone, we are specifically seeking to breathe new life into aged stories. So, ax re-telling, and focus on re-envisioning.

Perhaps you encounter a Rougarou after becoming lost in a Louisiana bayou. Maybe Sasquatch finally decides to relay his version of events. Could you have heard the maddening shrieks of the banshee while honeymooning in Ireland…or was that just the wind? Essentially, portray a traditional cryptid or folk character in a novel – and frightening! – way.

Whichever creative route you choose, be sure to marry your myth to the horror genre. No rainbows and butterflies here; we want gore and…er…bats?

Stories must be 3,000-5,500 words in length.

One submission per author, so make it count.

No reprints, AI-generated, or AI-assisted tales will be accepted. This is a hard-and-fast rule.

Authors will receive an eBook copy and a physical copy. (For international authors, physical book options will be discussed with the publishing company.)

Payment for accepted stories will be $0.01 per word up to 5,000 words. Payment disbursed upon acceptance of final edited version.

Call for submissions opens on January 1, 2025 and closes on March 31, 2025. All submissions should be sent to [email protected].

RIP to author Trent Zelazny. I had the privilege of working with Trent years ago when I was a part of Nightscape Press. Pictured below is his novella, Butterfly Potion, which we published and we also published a short story of his in Nightscapes.

He was a talented author who was kind and compassionate. His legacy will endure through his words.
