In a community hard-hit by opioids, one pastor is knocking on motel room doors to invite people to worship. The message: We're all broken people.

There will be no podcast this week. I will be working at the polls tomorrow all while praying for change‼️We NEED to stop the flow of drugs into this state, we NEED much harsher punishment for people dealing and killing our loved ones. We NEED more funding for LONG TERM TREATMENT‼️We NEED more SUD education in our schools and community 💜 WE NEED CHANGE‼️

Thank you Heather Perreault Slayton for inviting me to speak at the Washington County Mental Health Services Legislative update forum this morning. I appreciate you giving me the platform to have a voice for the mental health and substance use community. I heard the priorities of incumbents and those vying for a seat in office. While I have great passion for each priority I understand now more than ever that the majority of elected officials and some that are vying for a seat are missing the most important root of these issues. Top of mind should be mental health and substance use disorder. Fight that war and you'll win many. We desperately NEED education for our youth when it comes to mental health and substance use disorder. What happened to D.A.R.E.? We desperately NEED education for our community so that they can have a clear understanding of the problems we face and the supports needed. We NEED access to long term inpatient treatment for those struggling with substance use disorder. 14 to 21 days is detox, NOT rehabilitation. We NEED wrap around community service upon completion of inpatient services. Each life turned around gives us one more person that enters the workforce, one more taxpayer and many less crimes. We have a chance to create a home owner, we have a chance to give peace not only to the person struggling but our community. We NEED funding for mental health and substance use disorder services. Without providing these services we will continue to see a rise in homelessness, crime, su***de, domestic violence and food insecurities. This is your chance to spend more where it will truly count! So again I will say, fight this war and you'll win many 💜

It was an honor to be a part of the remembrance tree lighting at The Turning Point Center of Central Vermont this afternoon. I took a couple of pictures but chose not to go live. It's important that we remember our loved ones, but it's just as important that we sometimes remember those loved ones in the comfort and security of our own. Addiction is such a lonely world for those fighting the demon but also for those that fight beside them. It's grief for those that have lost someone they love and it's fear for those that wait for the call all while praying it never comes. Addiction is anger, love, fear, heartache and grief. So many feelings worn on so many faces. Truth be told, it's the face that many of you see and just don't know.
If you were unable to make it today, or maybe you're just not quite ready but would like to add a name, please stop by. The tree will remain at the center. At Turning Point we are all the same, we have a common demon that we fight every day. Here, we just don't fight alone. Here we have an amazing team willing to walk beside us and hold us up.
💜 Thank you to all of the amazing team members. Thank you for the groups, resources and support you all provide for so many. We are blessed to have you all in our community.
Thank you Moriah Clark Haggett for creating this event, for making it all pull together so beautifully. Thank you for being strong with such a loving heart but most of all thanks for being real. It's not a secret💜
