💙Copied from my friend, Eva💙

Every month Martín’s parents took a trip to see Grandma and came home on the same train the next day. One day the child said to his parents, “I'm already grown up. Can I go to my grandma's alone?" After a brief discussion, his parents accepted. They stood with him as he waited for the train to exit. They said goodbye to their son and gave him some tips through the window. Martin repeated to them, “I know. I've been told this more than a thousand times." As the train was about to leave, his father murmured in his ear, “Son if you feel bad or insecure, this is for you!" And he put something in his pocket. Now Martin was alone, sitting on the train as he had wanted, without his parents for the first time. He was admiring the landscape out the window. Around him some unknowns pushed themselves in. They made a lot of noise. They got in and out of the train car. The conductor made some comments about him being alone. One person looked at him with eyes of sadness. Martin was feeling more uneasy with every minute that passed. And now he was scared. He felt cornered and alone. He put his head down, and with tears in his eyes, he remembered his dad had put something in his pocket. Trembling, he searched for what his father had given him. Upon finding the piece of paper he read it, “Son, I'm in the last train car!"

That's how life is, we must let our kids go. We must let them try new things. But we always like to be in the last car, watching, in case they are afraid or in case they find obstacles and don’t know what to do. We want to be close to them as long as we are still alive. 💕

“there’s always someone worse off, but that doesn’t mean your feelings aren’t valid. It doesn’t diminish your feelings right now”.

It’s ok to feel angry and frustrated that you’re trying to do the impossible.

Maybe all the responsibility lies with you because there’s no one else right now. Perhaps you are on the frontline dealing with the fragility of life daily. You’re a single parent juggling everything and trying to be present for your children. We are all doing the impossible right now, stretching ourselves thinner than ever before, with less support and more confusion.

There are folks going through some terrible times right now, but, and if, for you, right now, life feels awful, it’s ok to feel it. You don’t have to be grateful or mindful or anything. It’s entirely possible right now to feel guilty about feeling fed up whilst simultaneously feeling grateful that you have a roof/job/your health/etc Two things can be true at once.

Your feelings are valid.

You Don’t Just Lose Someone Once
You lose them over and over,
sometimes many times a day.
When the loss, momentarily forgotten,
creeps up,
and attacks you from behind.
Fresh waves of grief as the realisation hits home,
they are gone.
Again.

You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every time you open your eyes to a new dawn,
and as you awaken,
so does your memory,
so does the jolting bolt of lightning that rips into your heart,
they are gone.
Again.

Losing someone is a journey,
not a one-off.
There is no end to the loss,
there is only a learned skill on how to stay afloat,
when it washes over.

Be kind to those who are sailing this stormy sea,
they have a journey ahead of them,
and a daily shock to the system each time they realise,
they are gone,
Again.

You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every day,
for a lifetime.

Just some thoughts running through my brain 🧠 😉

As we journey through life, we often find ourselves growing older and wiser with each passing year. And as the years go by, we begin to realize the true value of kindness and the power it holds. It's a remarkable thing, really, how a simple act of kindness can brighten someone's day and leave a lasting impact.

As we age, we start to understand that worrying about every little thing simply isn't worth it. We learn to let go of those worries, realizing that they only weigh us down and prevent us from truly enjoying each moment. Instead, we focus on spreading kindness, for we know that it can bring joy not only to others but also to ourselves.

Moreover, we come to understand that the behavior of others should not dictate our own happiness. People may come into our lives with negativity or unkindness, but we have the power to rise above it. We recognize that their behavior is a reflection of their own struggles and insecurities, and we respond with empathy and compassion rather than anger or frustration.

Growing older grants us the gift of perspective. We realize that life is too short to hold grudges or harbor negativity. Instead, we choose to embrace kindness as our guiding light, understanding that it has the ability to transform lives and create a ripple effect of positivity. We find joy in the simplest acts of kindness, whether it's offering a helping hand, lending a listening ear, or simply sharing a smile with a stranger.

So, let's embrace the beauty of growing older and the wisdom it brings. Let's make a conscious effort to prioritize kindness, not only towards others but also towards ourselves. Let's free ourselves from worries and the burden of others' behavior, and instead, focus on spreading love and kindness wherever we go. After all, a life lived with kindness is a life truly well-lived.

30 years ago (yesterday) my grandparents were on this train. They as well as many others never came home from that trip.
I remember the frantic calls my mom made trying to find out if they had survived, her drive out to the site to find them, and the utter despair when she did.
We never know what life has in store for us. It is so important that we create work life balance so that we are not defined by our careers alone. You can be dedicated and still ‘turn off’ work and ‘turn on’ life. Life is what happens outside of work and we should all work someplace that recognizes that.
Does your job encourage work life balance? Or do you feel guilt or anxiety when you aren’t constantly ‘on’?
Find a place that understands that while our work is important, our life outside of work is more important.
Tomorrow isn’t promised so make the memories, enjoy the vacation, and don’t let anyone make you feel bad for doing so.
Luckily, recognizes this. I hope your place of employment does as well. If it doesn’t, maybe it’s time to explore your options.

For Anyone currently struggling right now..
DEPRESSION TIPS:
Shower. Not a bath, a shower.
Use water as hot or cold as you like. You don’t even need to wash. Just get in under the water and let it run over you for a while. Sit on the floor if you gotta.
Moisturize everything.
Use whatever lotion you like.
Unscented? Dollar store lotion? Fancy 48 hour lotion that makes you smell like a field of wildflowers? Use whatever you want, and use it all over your entire dermis.
Put on clean, comfortable clothes.
Put on your favorite underwear.
Those ridiculous boxers you bought last christmas with candy cane hearts on the butt? Put them on.
Drink cold water.
Use ice. If you want, add some mint or lemon for an extra boost.
Clean something.
Doesn’t have to be anything big. Organize one drawer of a desk. Wash five dirty dishes. Do a load of laundry. Scrub the bathroom sink.
Blast music.
Listen to something upbeat and dancey and loud, something that’s got lots of energy. Sing to it, dance to it, even if you suck at both.
Make food.
Don’t just grab a granola bar to munch. Take the time and make food. Even if it’s ramen. Add something special to it, like a soft boiled egg or some veggies. Prepare food, it tastes way better, and you’ll feel like you accomplished something.
Make something.
Write a short story or a poem, draw a picture, color a picture, fold origami, crochet or knit, sculpt something out of clay, anything artistic. Even if you don’t think you’re good at it. Create.
Go outside.
Take a walk. Sit in the grass. Look at the clouds. Smell flowers.

Put your hands in the dirt and feel the soil against your skin.
Call someone.
Call a loved one, a friend, a family member, call a chat service if you have no one else to call. Talk to a stranger on the street. Have a conversation and listen to someone’s voice. If you can’t bring yourself to call, text or email or whatever, just have some social interaction with another person. Even if you don’t say much, listen to them. It helps.
Cuddle your pets if you have them/can cuddle them.
Take pictures of them. Talk to them. Tell them how you feel, about your favorite movie, a new game coming out, anything.
May seem small or silly to some, but this list keeps people alive.
*** At your absolute best you won’t be good enough for the wrong people. But at your worst, you’ll still be worth it to the right ones. Remember that. Keep holding on.
*** In case nobody has told you today I love you and you are worth your weight and then some in gold, so be kind to yourself and most of all keep pushing on!!!!
Find something to be grateful for!

Friday marked two years since I lost my mom. Losing a parent is an incredibly difficult and emotional journey, and it can have a significant impact on various aspects of our lives, including our work. Friday, while working, I tried to compartmentalize my grief as I pushed through my day. I didn’t want my grief to impact my work. But it was there and it was hard.

I want to offer some support on how to navigate the loss of a parent as well as the feelings that may resurface later.

1. Allow yourself time to grieve: Losing a parent is an immense loss, and it's crucial to acknowledge and process your grief. Give yourself permission to mourn and take the time you need to heal emotionally.
Understand that grief is a highly personal journey, and it may take longer than expected to find a sense of normalcy. Recognize that there will be times when grief surfaces days, months, and years later and it is okay.

2. Communicate with your employer: Open and honest communication with your employer is key during the initial period. Inform them about your loss and discuss any necessary adjustments to your workload or schedule.

3. Establish boundaries: After losing a parent, it's essential to be mindful of your mental and physical well-being. Set boundaries at work to ensure you have time to process your emotions outside of the office. Allow yourself breaks during the day, practice self-care, and engage in activities that bring you joy and comfort.

Use a personal day on significant dates. Honoring those we lose also allows us to honor the impact they made on our lives. Give yourself the day to just be.

4. Focus on self-care: Grief can be physically and emotionally draining, so it's crucial to prioritize self-care. Engage in activities that help you relax, such as meditation, exercise, or spending time in nature. Don't hesitate to seek professional help through counseling or therapy if needed. Remember, taking care of yourself is not selfish; it's necessary for your overall well-being.

Remember, grief is a personal journey, and there is no specific timeline for healing. Be patient with yourself, and don't hesitate to seek professional help if you find yourself struggling to cope with your loss. Losing a parent is undoubtedly a life-altering experience, but with time, support, and self-care, you can find a healthy balance between grieving and returning to work.

Take care of yourself and remember that you're not alone in this journey. Reach out to your loved ones and be kind to yourself as you navigate through this challenging time.

Sending you warm thoughts and support,

Humble Quill

Well-ness. Well-a source of life-Water. Ness. These three words seem disconnected at first glance, but when we delve deeper, we uncover a profound connection between them, a connection that speaks to the essence of our well-being.

Water, the elixir of life, is fundamental to our existence. It sustains us, nourishes us, and cleanses us. Our bodies are composed mostly of water, and its presence is vital for our bodily functions. Without water, life as we know it would cease to exist. It is the ultimate source of our physical well-being.

But what about our mental and emotional well-being? How does the concept of "ness" tie into the equation? Well, "ness" represents a state or quality of being. It encapsulates the essence of something, its true nature. When we bring together water and "ness," we start to see a broader perspective on well-being.

Water has remarkable qualities that reflect the very essence of well-ness. It is fluid, adaptable, and resilient. Water can flow effortlessly, overcoming obstacles in its path. Similarly, in our pursuit of well-being, we must be adaptable and resilient. We must learn to navigate life's challenges with grace and flexibility, flowing with the currents rather than resisting them.

Moreover, water possesses a remarkable ability to find balance. It seeks its own level, settling into a state of equilibrium. In our own lives, finding balance is crucial for our well-being. Balancing work and play, rest and activity, solitude and connection – these are the keys to maintaining a harmonious state of being.

Furthermore, water has a transformative power. It can cleanse, purify, and rejuvenate. Similarly, our well-being requires regular acts of self-care and self-reflection. We must cleanse ourselves of negativity, purify our thoughts and emotions, and rejuvenate our spirits. Just as water restores and replenishes, so too must we nurture ourselves to maintain a state of well-ness.

So, when we contemplate the interconnectedness of water, well-ness, and ness, we recognize that well-being extends beyond the physical realm. It encompasses the harmony of mind, body, and spirit. To achieve true well-ness, we must honor the fluidity, adaptability, resilience, balance, and transformative power that water embodies.

Let us embrace the wisdom of water and its inherent qualities. Let us cultivate a life that flows with grace, seeks balance, and nurtures our holistic well-being. In doing so, we tap into the well-ness that lies within us, finding sustenance, vitality, and the true essence of life itself.

Happy solstice day!

Celebrating your parent on Mother’s and/or Father’s Day is wonderful. I would challenge you to not let this be the only day you recognize your parents, however.

Celebrate them everyday in small and grand ways. Call them, tell them you love them, and make time for them.

Your parents will not always be there. Don’t have regrets. Don’t be too busy. Make the effort.
