The New Pioneers for a Sustainable Future will host their annual Empty Bowl Supper fundraiser on Friday, March 21 from 6:00 pm -8:00 pm at Cornerstone Acres located at 379 Rudd Ln, Springfield, KY. The event is rescheduled from the prior event date due to winter weather and cold.

This annual gathering, New Pioneers’ sole fundraising event each year, features locally handcrafted pottery; homemade soups, stews, and desserts; fellowship; and entertainment and live music. This year’s event will also kick off celebrations for the local, grassroot nonprofit’s 20th year promoting sustainability throughout Central Kentucky, including a Silent Auction. All ages are welcome with donations encouraged (recommended gift: $30/person).

“The Empty Bowl Supper always feels like a warm hug from a welcoming community amidst the cold winter season,” shares Executive Director, Julia Gerwe. “The selection of handcrafted bowls and homemade soups and stews can’t be beat, and the event provides an immersive opportunity to learn about environmental education and sustainability initiatives happening right here, close to home.”

Funds raised during this evening will support the 501(c)3 nonprofit’s education and sustainability programs throughout the year. In 2024, New Pioneers served roughly 1,730 individuals, including youth, with locally-based, quality environmental education. As a grassroots organization, New Pioneers also partners with local businesses, groups, and government to encourage sustainable thinking and practices on a broader level. Their work promotes sustainability in our rural communities to ensure a healthy future for all.

Billionaire Elon Musk is raising doubts about the U.S. gold reserves at nearby Fort Knox, suggesting a need to verify its existence. In a series of posts on X, Musk questioned whether the 147.3 million ounces of gold held at the U.S. Bullion Depository remain intact.

“This gold is the property of the American people. I sure hope it's still there!” Musk wrote.

The site was last opened to officials in 2017 and to journalists in 1974. Musk even floated the idea of a live-streamed walkthrough, fueling speculation over the vault’s contents.
