Is it okay to become friends with your clients?

I've never been a 'traditional' business owner. Maybe I haven't always prioritized making money over building connections and an authentic brand. But, I think that's what makes The Sparrow Collective what it is.

I don't ever have a desire to run a huge corporation and follow 'traditional' rules.

So, do I think it's appropriate? Y.E.S.
More than that, I think it's a part of my business, and one of my favorite parts.

Have you seen the headlines talking about mass layoffs due to AI?

For a moment, I paused with a bit of fear, wondering if people will begin to decide to use more AI instead of hiring real people like me.

But then I reminded myself, that you'd have to be willing to give up your likeness in photos, your original artwork, the book you took so long to write, or even the logo you had created for your business.

EVERY TIME you pop something into AI - you no longer own it.

I've always been really proud of being authentic, kind, compassionate, and understanding as a business owner.

Where many would cut someone off immediately, I try to show patience and understanding first.

It's the kind of business that makes me proud.

But, now I'm having to set aside those things I stand on because someone took advantage of those very values that are the bedrock of my business.

I've emailed at least 15 times.
Resent the invoice at least 10 times.
Send a cancellation contract (ignored).

The frustrated part of me wants to use their socials as hostage. 😆 But, that's also not the person I am.

So person to person.

Since this is the month of vibrant colors, it felt like the perfect time to talk about my biggest website pet peeve... 😤

If I can't read your website, I'm clicking away faster than you can say 'bounce rate'!

Here's the brutal truth: I see SO many beautiful websites that are completely unreadable because someone chose 'aesthetic' over accessibility.

Your website needs to work for EVERYONE - including the 1 in 12 people with color vision differences, people using screen readers, folks with dyslexia, and literally anyone trying to read your content on a sunny day! 📱☀️

Let's talk about the elephant in the room 🐘

Politics and business social media - it's messy, it's complicated, and everyone has an opinion about how you should handle it.

Here's my take: There's no one-size-fits-all approach. Some businesses thrive by taking strong stances, others build loyal communities by staying focused on their expertise.

But whatever you do, don't let fear of judgment stop you from being authentic to your brand.

Taking breaks from social media is ok!

But take some advice that I didn't do for myself when life and business had me overwhelmed.

Don't completely stop posting.

Schedule out two posts a week, something, anything that tells the algorithm you're still here.

When a new client asks me how long it will take to see traction and they posted 2 times in the last month, I'm immediately reluctant to answer. It's HARD to get social media to trust you again.

Take a picture of your dog, your computer, whatever you can, and stay present in a tiny way.
