Poncho has had it. I feel like he’s depressed now. He hates crates, he hates laundry rooms. He just wants to be with people so badly. With so many dogs I’m caring for, this isn’t the environment he’s going to thrive in.
He’s such a big and recognizable dog, I wonder if his owner or breeder is out there. Do they see these posts? Did his owner dump
him? How did he end up in the Kern County shelter? Someone intentionally brought him into this world and they don’t care that he is homeless. They don’t care that he was going to be killed in the shelter.
Watching this dog become depressed is the hardest thing for me. Out of frustration, he’s destroyed the walls and doors in the laundry room. He cries and whines when he’s in there. He absolutely hates being confined. He’s even in a huge kennel, Great Dane sized, super reinforced. He still manages to hurt himself sometimes. This is unacceptable.
He’s only happy when he’s out roaming the house and with his people. This boy is incredibly loyal, loving and he’ll do anything with his person. Car rides, walks, lounging on the couch, a little play, you name it. He’s a gentle giant.
As for other pets, a calm female would likely work but best to be an only dog. No males or cats. Not that he’s necessarily aggressive toward them but if a fight breaks out, he’s a very big boy and that would not be easy to stop. He very rarely reacts to other dogs while out on walks. He looks but doesn’t try to engage if the other dog is call also.
Please, please help us find him a loving home! He’s gaining weight, getting depressed, and it’s just not right. We want the best for all of these dogs. Please share him on your NextDoor apps, other social media platforms, with your coworkers, family and friends. PONCHO NEEDS A PERSON/FAMILY OF HIS OWN TO LOVE. He would be great with kids too. He is a precious soul and he deserves the very best.
