LIFE ANNOUNCEMENT-After 8 years of working in TV News and 7 as a reporter I am leaving the biz. I have accepted an Adjunct Journalism and Public Relations Professor job at California Baptist University in Riverside. This Friday is my last day at Eyewitness News. I start at CBU this coming Fall semester. I have felt for me working in news long term was not sustainable. I have heard the calling from God to be a journalism professor. It's time to use what I have learned to try and help and equip the next generation to do balanced, fair, ethical, important, engaging, creative stories that make a difference in the lives of the public and that bring glory to Jesus Christ. I got my Master's in May and God blessed me very quickly with a job at my dream school. Lancer Media Group and CBU TV is thriving and I can't wait to be apart of the great work they're doing. It's intimidating making a career change, but I am taking the leap of faith and trust Jesus Christ with my whole heart. After living in Bakersfield for years from my two different stints plus my time commuting to CSUB I am blessed to have gained many friends. Please stay in touch! Bakersfield will always have a special place in my heart. Cubbie's Pizza, Salty's BBQ and Dewar's, you'll have a special place in my stomach, haha. It was truly a God thing to land a job not only back in CA and back in Bakersfield, but at the station I grew up watching and where my mentor is, Aaron Perlman. I was so blessed to get a job in the heart of the pandemic, when there were hiring freezes. It was a dream to get to report for the station I grew up watching in Tehachapi. My co-workers have been fun to work with. Thank you. Cristina and I enjoyed our time together in Bakersfield but are very excited about this move. We move this weekend. Babe, I can't wait to do this adventure with you. Kern County, thank you for allowing me to learn and cover your important stories. I gave you my very best. Kern County residents have big giving, caring hearts.

Kern County District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer said homicide rates doubled throughout the state during the pandemic and led to Kern County, having the highest per 100,000 people.

"A lot of programs were not in effect, some of our safe streets programs and different things-law enforcement had to curtail that a bit," DA Zimmer said. "Also children were not in school during those two years."

After ranking first in the state for homicides per capita, numbers from the District Attorney's office are showing Kern County's homicide rates are decreasing.
