At Philly Puddy Designs, we have been truly blessed by how well we have been doing under the current circumstances. Our clients are second to none...But the reason they are is because they know when we say "No", we are not trying to be mean...Rather, we want to do what works for them.
If a client comes to us and says "We want one of these cool hickey majiggies. Can you do that?", often our answer is "Yes, we can do it, but why do you need it?" Then we go into how they need to focus on their user experience rather than having the latest "trendy" thing going on. We'll be honest, we lose half of our business that way. Either we've had to fire clients or clients have fired us because we wouldn't "do as we were told". But we are ok with that because that is not what we are hired to do. The reason why we are doing so well is because we know how to say "No" even when we can do a project so we can be thought of as "cool"...And there is a reason for that: If it doesn't make sense with your brand, we are not going to do. We are focused on the big picture, not someone's immediate gratification. We only do what makes sense for our clients.
We are not "yes men". 9 times out of 10, the customer is wrong.
Our client's work hard for their money, and we know that. This is why we still have a majority of the clients that we started off with. When you hear "no" from professionals like ourselves, we are trying to guide you to the "yes" you didn't even know you needed.
And why are we like this: Because all great leaders of great companies have had this policy. That is why many of our clients are the leaders in their field: they listened to us, they took our professional guidance and they trusted in the "big picture". Even they are thriving in this time of uncertainty. And this level of professionalism in design and video is not a new concept. Here's a guy talking about it back in 1997. You might have heard of him...His name is Steve Jobs.
Again, thank you to our clients who have allowed us to sustain them during this time, and in turn, have sustained us. Stay safe out there, y'all.
