Mark your calendars for February 26th at AFS Cinema, for a special screening of There There! 🌟 This unique and compelling film, created by writer-director Andrew Bujalski and beautifully colored at TBD Post, promises a visual and emotional experience you won’t want to miss.

Back during the bad, scary days of the pandemic, Andrew Bujalski concocted a plan to tell a dryly humorous story about the importance and fragility of human connection within the limitations of social isolation. All the actors are in different places, sometimes even different continents, even as they converse across the room. Amazingly, due to Bujalski and his talented teammates — including cast members Jason Schwartzman, Lennie James, Lili Taylor, and Molly Gordon — it all works. Bujalski will present the film and reflect upon its making. This Sscreening is in conjunction with the Museum of Human Achievement and Fusebox’s upcoming “There There” installation, which opens February 21, 2025.

Grace, the youngest of five, left her complex blended family behind after graduation, building a new life in Los Angeles. A decade later, her world is disrupted when she discovers her older brother, AJ, has cancer. Her estranged family returns to support him. The film unfolds during the days after Michael Jackson's death, near the L.A. Coroner's Office where he was autopsied. Through this, the family's painful past, AJ's role as Grace's protector, and their adult estrangement are revealed. Grace grapples with her former role as the family's "Golden Child," with Michael Jackson's influence as a poignant backdrop.

Quantum Cowboys, Geoff Marslett's psychedelic peyote-fueled fever dream of a film, is now streaming on Peacock! https://loom.ly/ZKqq0g8

The film traverses multiple formats; a pair of drifters (Kiowa Gordon and John Way) are on a quest to find a legendary musician (Howe Gelb) when they team up with an Indigenous woman (Lily Gladstone) intent on reclaiming her land. It’s the springboard for a deep dive into a multiverse in which a dozen different mediums are employed to distinguish between the disparate realities navigated by an ensemble of rogues.

Get ready for FADERS UP: THE JOHN AIELLI EXPERIENCE, the SXSW award-winning documentary about the local radio legend. Directed by David Hartstein and Sam Wainwright Douglas, it opens at AFS Cinema next Friday, October 4!

“John Aielli was undeniably the voice of Austin and the ultimate supporter of the arts for over 50 years. Some of my fondest memories are sitting in the studio with John to help raise money during the on-air pledge drive. In that spirit, please help give what you can to FADERS UP, a beautiful film about John, Austin, music, exploration, and individuality. It’s one hell of a journey and a reminder of how that spirit lives on. Please Donate to FADERS UP (it’s tax deductible).” – John Kunz of Waterloo Records
